There's already a few threads about this. The scammers keep getting more clever, which is kind of a shock.

They've failed at being a real webmaster and are too lazy to get a real job.

Someone copied my username here too, and just added a period. He's not banned (surprising to me), but I busted him right away and it has not been a problem for me:

    my profile: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=20282
    fake browntwn: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=62463

    busted him here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=2447141&postcount=30

He even copied my avatar, which is my own photo of Tusky at my laptop, so he has stolen my copyright image as well.

    Cest' la vie

They're not all necessarily scammers though. Often times when someone signs up on a forum their username is taken and chooses one that's similar to it.

I am not sure if you are replying to me. But if you are, it matters not a bit if he suceeds with scamming someone. The fake browntwn not only copied my name, but also my avatar. That is an obvious attempt to trade on my goodwill and reputation - even if not for a scam. Further, he has used my avatar which is a photo I took and own, so at a minimum, he is a thief.

Frankly, as long as he stays away, I don't care. Just pointing out that this happened to many people.

I think someone would have a hard time being fooled by a similar username to mine. The scammer would have to get a LOT of itrader and posts to look similar :D

These type of people are just scum.

Pretty easy to tell them apart though on your second look, but the first quick glace isn't so much a giveaway.

I highly doubt those fake accounts will get much from here anyway if your paying close enough attention to who your dealing with. :)
