Hi Morgan, sorry to hear about this, I've lost at least $800 on scammers! How about you make a list of ways he contacted you and information you can or have on him: - Email - IP - Name Etc. Etc Perhaps if you have a list of this you can see how you can try to contact him. If he's using hotmail, ask them if they can help you out with an IP or something alike! What also could work is to put his username/reall name in google and look for any other boards he is on and try to contact him under another name! so try to use the information you got now to get more and more info on him! Please keep this thread updated! Very interested in this as I have lost alot aswell on this group of "people"
Okay ill post as much info as i can about him. I did not get his real name as he was using the persons under the who is details which i have since found out did not sell the site. Email: He was using two e-mails when the buying process was made one for msn so i could contact him and one for paypal. MSN: Paypal: I dont have his IP adress and i dont think the admin of this forum is going to allow me access to it so i wont be able to get it, if he was too give me it i could work out his location etc and get in contact with him.
To be fair if I was put in the same position I wouldn't divulge that information due to privacy and data protection issues. PayPal will do something about it, but it might be worth getting hold of their telephone number and contact them. It'll take time though - unfortunately.
go to your bank and tell them to do a chargeback. i bought a "template" from a guy on SP before and he sent it uncoded, it was supposed to be in html ready to go. he wouldnt fix it so i went to my bank and demanded a chargeback, at first they said they couldnt do it with paypal, then after a few more minutes of complaining the bank guy gave in, called some corporate number and spoke to a higher up. within 3days the money was RIPPED from paypals grimey hands and put back in my bank account. point is, dont let your bank tell you they cant do anything, this is proof they can. also, paypal has a norefund policy for non-tangible goods likes templates/scripts/webpages etc so youre more than likely going to have to do something extra to get your cash back...
Thanks for the suggestions but the money i used to pay was allready in my paypal account so it wasnt taken through the credit card or i would be using the charge back method to retrieve it. If the admins cant give me his full IP adress are you able to give me certain numbers in it so we can look it up on the stats through the website?
PayPal will likely file in your favor in this one. Especially if he doesn't surface and reply to your complaint so you are most likely going to get your money back. It'll just take a few days is all. Consider yourself lucky and a nice lesson learned.
Hopefully GeogeB is right, but I would imagine that he took the money out of his paypal account right after you sent it and if he did then you will get nothing. Has happened to me 3 times
It's put me off buying websites for sure. I work too damn hard to let some bastard scam money off me. The problem you might have is it's his word against yours, and if he doesnt' have funds in his account, then they can't take the money back, unless they try and take it from a credit card or bank account on the account.
So DP are you just going to leave my site link in his sig. and do nothing at all? Also on this point I had emailed DP admin about this guy early on Dec. 4 telling it was not me and I thought it was fishy he had my site in his profile, no response. I assume DP admin are very busy. I found this through linkdomain: on msn. While I am really sorry this happened, NEXT TIME you might contact a potential seller via the domain name email or whois phone # before buying. If he/she was the real owner he/she could have responded to either of those. As you see the paypal email is nothing like my domain either. There are many members, mods, and users on our forums all day, you bought a site without one hello or question posted. We have a contact form on the site. We have live chat on the site. The site is pr5, 48,000 Alexa, 3,000 members, the low $500 offer didn't sound quite fishy? Wayne
Always ask for a phone number to reach them before conducting a transaction, that way you can hold the person directly accountable for their action (or in this case inaction)
Damn im sorry this happened to you. It happened to me once as a seller though. I had a transaction made and a month after the guy tought he would file a chargeback and he got it after using up the service completely. I could not do anything about it besides pay off all the negative balance it left me.
Wayne raises some good points about conducting yourself online. It's not safe, and wouldn't deal with anyone who sent an email using a free email account. Yes, I could be loosing business, but if you have a website, why are you using a free yahoo or hotmail email address. http://www.getsafeonline.org/
Dude what a ripoff. I hope you get every penny back and more. Wow. I'm in shock. The audacity of this guy. Though I think the tips you've learned will help you next time. I still feel really bad for you. If the scammer is reading this (which I doubt) you should be ashamed of yourself. Look at you. You scammed an honest person out of $500 bucks. I hope you never see one cent of that. Skinny
I think he scammed you cuz his website could be more expensive but anyways contact paypal ASAP then get his postal adress..find his PH..call him and tell him you are not afraid of contacting the police..and you can get your money back..
i just checked his whois and its funny what it says Registrant: Not For Sale Don't be scammed Wayne Oakes 1348 S. Floyd St. Louisville, Kentucky 40208 United States Registered through: GoDaddy.com Domain Name: FREEPOKERLEAGUE.COM Created on: 19-Nov-03 Expires on: 19-Nov-13 Last Updated on: 13-Oct-05
I am Wayne, I did not make this deal as I have said here already. That is my info you are posting. I edited the whois so no one else would get scammed this way. You can contact me all you want, If the person who got scammed would have contacted those details in the first place, none of this would have happened. But even after they saw the whois they sent money to a yahoo email address via paypal. DIGITAL POINT... Where are you guys in this???? No response at all. Someone is going around on your site selling domains they don't own, and you guys are mute. I contacted you before it happened about the person having my site in their sig. I contacted you in a earlier post on this thread asking for you to remove it. I am asking again. Do you guys not care this is going on at your forums? If you have any doubt I am the real Wayne, call the whois phone # or email the email address, I will confirm it. Morgan did you get your money back from paypal?
Well, the dude's account here is banned *weeeeee, really helpful* I think Shawn can only give info like IP addresses out if he is asked to by the authorities, given a court order, etc :/
