Everybody has a life and problems to some degree. Unless you're dead, there's no reason to make an excuse for not paying back someone, period.

    Excuses don't cut it.

Agreed, but this is a practical demonstration of why most countries have specific contract laws for when you are dealing with a minor.

they still dont get it that it's a child that owes the $20, i think most think it's the child that is owed the $20 by the actions he is using.

immortality, you did the right thing shaming this kid.

These kids need to be taught that lying is not on and that there are consequences for a persons actions.

Allowing this to be swept under the floor does not help this child who will learn that lying can get them some easy cash.

sarahk, why she wrote what she did is to put immortality in a bad light, that is obvious to (almost) everybody. You have to have an incredible vivid imagination to come up with that real stupid and insulting sex idea.

read below, i wrote the book on internet safety you idiot.

Internet safety is one of the last things on your mind while you're having fun with friends online, either in chat rooms, on teen forum's, or just plain old messengers.
But how much do you really know the person you're talking to? 13 year old jenny from Tampa bay FL, might really be 55 year old jeff from Liverpool UK!!!
Do you really know for sure? Do you ask yourself strange questions like " why did s/he say that?" or wonder why they dont know your favorit member of a well known boy band. Do things seem to turn sexual in a very short time when you talk to them? Or do you seem to spend a lot of time having girlie talks with them, that turn into very personal and private matters you feel uncomfortable talking about with them?
Do they ask you for pictures that you could'nt even let your mom see? That could be a few hints that someone is not who they say they are.

The internet has its good and bad points, one good point is that you can make new friends from all over the world, and chat in real time, for as much as you want, for very little cost to you. Another is you can get all the information you need for homework, work, advice on health matters or just to chill out and play games on some cool web sites. Teen sites are popping up every day on the internet, one of the major problems that site owners have, is how to keep its members safe and still keep the site open and free, with a relaxed atmophere for members to enjoy.
This kind of work is a webmasters nightmare, so very few webmasters will invest the time or the money to do this for its members. So you have to keep yourself safe, because at the end of the day, it's your life you're risking.
The bad points about the internet are:

    * People can be anyone they want to be, Jim can be Jane today, and Amy tomorrow, without fear of being caught.
    * People can trick you into doing something, and you feel trapped to do what they say (Blackmail).
    * Sexual preditors have access to young people, without fear of being caught or found out.
    * People meet new friends they have made on the internet, without really knowing who is going to turn up.
    * People use the internet for cyber sex, without knowing who they are really doing it with.
    * People are sitting at home feeling safe, without knowing who they are making friends with.
    * Not to mention email spam, virii, drugs, porn, and other nasty things the Net can bring into our homes.

Nasty people use the internet just as much as nice people, but because they are at home and they feel safe from the Law they feel that they are free to target young impressionable minds that hav'nt learnt to recognize the dangers of internet life.

Judy Cajuste: (R.I.P) 14 Year Old NJ Girl Found Dead

Judy Cajuste was killed by a person she met on myspace.com. At age 14 i cannot begin to understand why someone would kill a child. Again I find her profile very emotional reading, she is also very sadly missed. (R.I.P Judy)

Police have found and identitified the body of a New Jersey girl as 14 year old Judy Cajuste. Killed on the date of her last login on myspace.com 10/jan/2006 left naked, strangled and placed in a dumpster, police are looking at her PC records, as they believe she may have met foul play as the result of meeting an individual through her MySpace.com account. Judy's myspace.com profile

Taylor Behl (R.I.P) 17 years of age from Virginia was found dead, after being strangled and raped then left in shallow grave.

    Taylor Behl
    [IMG]

Taylor Behl was killed by a person she met on myspace.com. I find her profile very emotional reading, she is sadly missed. (R.I.P Taylor)

killed 09/04/2005 (date she last logged in on her myspace.com account), by a friend she met on myspace.com. A 38 year old guy has been charged. What is so sad here, is that on her profile she puts "Who I'd like to meet:"Someone who is kind." Taylor's myspace.com profile

Seven teenage Connecticut girls have been sexually assaulted by men they met through MySpace.com. Many more won’t come forward out of embarrassment or fear. Myspace.com is a huge site with over 50,000,000 members, but people pray on any web site that they can find a target, so most web sites where teenagers and young adults gather, could be a prime target.
So how do you stay safe on the internet?

Well there are a number of things you can do to protect yourself, and while it is in the minority of cases, it is a very real threat everyone needs to plan for and be careful, just a little common sense can keep you safe.

Below is a list of do's and dont's to be safe on the net.
First i would like you to ask yourself a few questions

    * do i have a profile on any web sites?
    * do i use chat rooms?
    * do i use a web cam?
    * do i signup for sites and give my personal information?
    * do i email people i meet on the net?
    * do i meet people that i have met on the net?

if you can say "yes" to any one of the above questions, then you're not safe, and need to read this whole page.

There are things that can lead a person to you, never put your school on a profile, never put your surname on it, never put your home town on it, if you live in a big city, just have the city, not the area in the city, or just say you live outside the city, if you live in a small town, put the nearest big city as your home town. dont lead people to you, lead people away from you.

question #2 do i use chat rooms?
if you use chat rooms, remember the person your talking to might not be who they say they are, how do i find out who they are? you cant, but you can ask some questions that will help you work out if its a teen or old man trying to be a teen, a paedophile is cunning and can trick you, and can be the best person you ever met on the planet, but is it the teen boy/girl you think it is? or is it the 20-30-40-50-60-70 year old paedophile tricking you?

    Things to ask:
ask who there favorit bands are, if the say the beatles, rolling stones, older groups then chances are its an older person. if they say up to date groups that you know, ask who is the lead singer in that group, ask who their favorit person is in the group, ask what is their favorit song, ask whats the blonde/brown haired guy/girl is called in the group. this is stuff most teens would know but not older people. talk about your favorit group, and ask them questions about your favorit group, most teens your age would know the members of your favorit group, without saying any members names, ask them who their favorit member is of your favorit group. if they cant, then the chance is that they are older. this is the time to be wise, and not to give out any other information. If you ask a question like that, and they take time to reply, and do that with diffrent questions, remember they might be looking up the pop group on the net, so they might tell you the right things, just use your own judgement.

Do the same with movie stars, and your favorit movie's, ask if they have seen ???? movie then ask about it, ask about things in the movie. best part of it, things like that. remember teens keep up to date with whats happening to their favorit star's so asking about things that have been in the news is a good way to learn about who your talking to, if the dont know much/nothing, then i would back off and say bye to them.

Sex talk, dont talk about sex, most paedophiles are cunning, and just drop hints on sex, hoping that you start talking about it, then it makes it look like you started the subject. others will wait until they have gained your trust before talking about it, like "were good friends and friends share everything" dont be fooled into this false trust. remember everything you say in a chat room can be saved, and used to blackmail you later. once they have your trust, you start giving personal information to them, dont. you may end up having a major problem with blackmail, and having to do things you feel you must as it's the only way out that you can see, remember, you have done nothing wrong.
If you are getting blackmailed, tell your folks, they would sooner you told them even if you have done something you know that mom/dad wont like. tell them, they want you to be safe, not fall pray to someone. if you cant tell mom/dad, tell a school teacher, or another adult you know and trust, but please tell someone. dont let them get away with it, you might be the 1st or the 20th that this person has done this to, put an end to it.
never give out your home phone # cell/mobil, it will cost you to have it changed.
never give out your home address. or that of others.

question #3 do i use a web cam?
if you use a web cam, keep it to just your face in the shot, make sure nothing in the background can give away your location.

remember what you do on web cam can be recorded and saved, some guys then send the file to sites on the net, or put it on kazza and other p2p programs, before you know it, every one in your town will spread the word, or they'll tell your mom/dad. what you have been doing on cam. be wise and be safe.

But you have seen the other person on cam. so i know who it is, so i can do things on cam i am safe, its not a paedophile. wrong software is out there that plays back movies that people have recorded, on their web cam portal, so it might be a recorded movie your looking at on their web cam and not them.be smart be safe, face only on cam. never do anything your asked to, or might regret.

question #4. do i signup for sites and give my personal information? if you do, then give as little information as possable. someone is collecting it, do you know who and why?

question #5 do i email people i meet on the net?
when you send an email. your sending your ip# too, this can be used to trace your location, to the city or town you live in. not to your home address. if you have put your real name and surname on the email, with the city/town, from your ip#, people can look up on the net or phone book for your phone number, and that gives your address too. with your picture on your profile people can trace you.be smart be safe
if you use hotmail or yahoo email you are sending out your profile too, if you have filled out a profile people can see the profile from the email address you have sent the email from.

never give your email address out in a chat room
make sure you know who you're giving your email address to
make another email address with out filling in the profile for it. use that for new people, when you're happy you know who that are, give them your main email address if your ok with it.

question #6 do i meet people that i have met on the net?
if after all the above your happy to meet someone from the net, then there are a few things you must do to be safe.
#1 tell your folks and let them see who you are going to meet.
#2 never meet anyone on your own, take some friends (note take more than one friend with you) an adult, mom/dad, anyone that you trust. never get into a car with anyone you met, they can take you far and fast, and nothing much you can do about it, as they will become violent and you end up hurt or dead.
be safe be wise, this is just a small sample of how to keep safe, i cant tell you how important it is, people are out there to hurt you, take the advice. and advice from other safe sites.

Samantha, I honestly can't stand stuff like that.
I just hope you're joking with the vast majority of things you're saying.

Yeah. The internet is a f&cked up place.
    But its not all bad.

After 21 paragraphs on NOT meeting people online, or the dangers involved in such things, you post one small chapter on meeting people online..

The internet is a sick place, and I've had both positive and negative experiences with it.

I personally believe that if you've got a decent head on your shoulders , you won't get sucked into anything you don't want to be in.
    I've met a number of people IRL via the internet;
A member of one of my sites came over here (germany) from california to travel through Europe with me (granted, it didn't work out too well).

Also, I met my girlfriend via one of my sites. Funny how she'd been an active member for almost 2 years till we really got talking.. but still.
She's in Canada, I'm in Germany.
I went to visit her over xmas, and we had the best time of our lives.
Sure, everyone was weary of some kid coming over from Germany, but still.
    Her grandparents were the worst.
What I'm trying to say, is this, the worst light is always shone on the internet.
You only ever hear of the murders, rapes, etc that happen from people meeting online, never from the people that go on to be happy from meeting online.

    Edit;
Isn't it funny how it got off topic here?
To me it seems the kid never had bad intentions, and he would have paid him back. He couldn't, for whatever reasons, and now is emberessed.
The fact is its just $20. Leave it at that. Don't make such a big thing of it.
Its your own fault for having given the money to a 15 year old. There's nothing you can do about it, just never loan money again.
    I never do.
I've noticed myself that loaning or borrowing money only ALWAYS leads to problems.
I don't even know how he asked for the money, regardless of that, just look at the countless 419 scammers, people will say anything to get money off you.

Do we know that immortality knew that this guy is 15 when he lend him the money ?

samantha pia is f****d up in her head big time, or just very drunk. What has this article to do in this thread ? She is trying to connect immortality to illegal sexual acts to make him look bad, thats her agenda. Really, really odd. All immortality did was telling us that he did not get his money back from someone, and that this someone was lying to him. The guy lying is supposed to be 15 years (we don`t know that). A 15 years old that are smart enough to be on a webmaster forum borrowing money should definitely be mature enough to know not to lie and stand up for his actions.

i work for my own site and i also write for a student center in the usa, with 800,000 students from 13 to 26, not all kids are streetwise and not all 13 year olds are looking for romance on the net, but there are people out there that are looking for young kids, to kill, thats the point of an internet safety page, not to give them the impression that the net is a wonderful place free from harm. it's not. there are people out there that want to harm children and actively target them on any website.
the page to there to give them as much information to make a better judgement on meeting someone, talking to someone, accepting gifts from someone, becoming frinds with someone, or trusting someone.
one mistake and you could die.

i find it ironic that Login chooses to try and attack me about being sick for thinking of that stuff, when that is my very job, to think of that, to point it out to people, thats what i do, and if protecting children is sick in his eye's, that means he would like have the children less informed so they can be abused?
i think not, i just think he is to far stuck up his own butt to see the bigger pictue, and before he starts to make comments about what peoples intentions are when making a post, he should make sure that they are not the people that are more informed about the subject than he is. then he wont look so stupid when he's proven wrong.

Your view on abuses on the net is the same as mine. You don`t understand in your thick head that my only point is that bringing up sex stuff in this thread is way out of line. And yes, if you read from immortalitys posts alone that he is a potential abuser you are sick. Can you tell me what part of immortality`s post that triggered your sex abuse thoughts ?

his age is in his profile, if you intent to give someone money for something you'll read the profile, we have also only heard one side to the story, so i wouldnt judge anyone till you hear both sides.

i'm fucked up huh? look you have called me a bitch fucked up , sick, anything else you want to call me you immature muppet?

that page is a page i wrote on internet safety, i bet you read 2 lines, thats all you can manage with your goldfish attention span, now when you grow up, and see that i know what i said and what i ment, then you can come back and talk to me.
until then put yourself on mute you idiot.

thats what you read, thats not what others read, and as you are the only one posting about how you read it, then i am sure i have nothing to worry about.

care to use some more meaningful insults? are have you used all the ones you know?
    (edit)
the deal made in private and the $20 lent, but the demand to have (i love immortality) in your sig till you pay the loan back, can be inoccent and it can be something else,
what i was pointing out is that making this public, can make people questoin it, and that it could lead people to think other things, (note the word could) it does not mean i think so, it just means you have to be more careful when dealing with a minor, and then making things public, like when immortality said he could post about the childs family problems because thay had talked about that too.
i deal with sexual abuse victims, i know what can happen, i have worked on entrapment twice in 4 years for the NYPD because that's where the site is based and i knew the system and how to tract, and because i was the only female member of staff with access to the ip addresses.

what you fail to see is how a guy can be so nice, yet so innocent himself that he can make himself look suspious, that was the point other where trying to get across when they asked for the childs name to be removed from the thread, that was not on immortality said, so i then pointed out the other things, that you take offence too

I could always use meaningful insults like you do and call you an idiot, stupid, dumbass and fool just like you call me, but I will not do that. Where did I call you a bitch ??? (Not that I don`t agree on that.)
And if you want to discuss start to read all I write please. I wrote "Your view on abuses on the net is the same as mine." What do you not understand by that sentence ?

Lets stick to the core problem:

Immortality posts about being scammed, you answer with sex abuse talk.

Please tell me what in immortality`s post gave you the idea about writing about sex abuse.

So sad that this has descended into a flame war.

    Man loans $20 to child
Child makes promise he/she can't keep
    Man gives child deadline
Child refuses to face up to responsibility
Man outs child as a scammer.

    thats about that isn't it?

I am on the fence here though as there is wrong on all sides. I have responded to calls like this, have pmed the person to ask them why they need the money, and if it appears genuine I GIVE them the money. By that I tell them I expect the money to be repaid. I never chase the money up though, no point.

If the sum is substantial enough, then I give them a chance to work off the debt, that way we all come out of it with self esteem and dignity intact.

The saddest part in all this is the pain that has been caused by a simple act of generaosity, and the inability/reluctance to repay or communicate.

The moral of this tale is 'communication is the key' :)

i agree. sort of. i mean...the 'fuck u' u part is kinda fuct up. him getting called a scammer doesnt give him the right not to pay back the loan. those are 2 different things. anywya. just my 28 cent.
maybe tru, but i think iw ould have did the same thing! i would have went pub and let people know that he doesnt pay back. u would have to tell them the excuse. long as u dont go into detail it should be cool.
