This was a very clever scam indeed. The scammer was very selective in his wording in PM's and payment was made after a reasonable amount of negotiation.

Today, I received the Paypal reversal email advising the funds were placed on hold pending unauthorised useage.

I spoke to Paypal by phone and they advised that they would conclude whether they feel the useage was authorised or unauthorised within 7 days.

I have issued undo requests to godaddy and am awaiting on the outcome.

I even spoke to the real owner of the paypal account used to buy the site and he said he had over £1200 taken from his card which makes the money I have lost (£225) seem relatively small.

I like to think as myself as an experienced internet marketer and as being a person who can detect a scam a mile off however, scammers today are becoming more and more sophisticated.

Due diligence is somthing which is often rushed during the sale of a website but is one of them things which is paramount in order to succeed in this business...

In the meantime, please stay clear of this member...he is placing bids on sites and domains in the BST forums.

It is a real shame, as I have taken the decision to no longer deal with anyone with less than 10 itrader and an accountable past on DP.

Thats good i think ! :) Even I don't do any deal with newbies.

Its better to deal with the people who are old here on DP. :)

    Good Luck for future.

I would not say that all newbies are here to scam us - just be more cautious and if you feel that something may go wrong ( for payments bigger than $100 ), ask him to sign a simple contract ( stating his name, address and finally, what this is all about ). If he's the real owner of what he's selling, you should have no problems in completing this step.

Wish you good luck and it will be hard to get this guy, maybe it will be a lesson to you. I always try to deal with reliable itrade users.
