Word of mouth is going to be your best friend. Get on insta, get some influencers on board, get them to flash their daily payouts about and you'll have more users than you can imagine.

Good luck moderating for scams, bots, and fraud.

Well, the answer is social media as @sarahk said. media buying can give you a boost, especially if you target the right audience. consider combining that with some engaging social media campaigns to create buzz and attract those users you’re aiming for.

50K users in a month usually means a pretty large investment will be required. This was probably 8 years ago, but I was advising an angel-funded start-up with a mobile app. The angel investor wanted to see if the app could have 50,000 downloads in a month. We hired a company that had a bunch of influencers in its stable and who claimed that it had access to 100 million eyeballs through its network of influencers. We paid them $50,000 and got 50,000+ downloads over a weekend. I suspect that the cost has gone up since then, of course. As an aside, despite the 50K downloads, the company's app never really got enough traction. The angel investor turned into a demon investor (many do) and the company made too many mistakes because of him.

The problem with cashback type sites is you have to be confident they'll pay - more so than "will I enjoy using this app" and there's a lot more competition for people's time online. The site isn't novel and people have been burnt in the past.

I see the ads for those "get paid to play solitaire" type of apps and I just can't believe them.

Absolutely. Downloading a free mobile app is about as easy as it gets. Getting a real buyer is much, much more difficult and, therefore, much more expensive.
