Hydrogen cars do indeed look the most promising but the problem there is once the vehicles are on the market, how much will they charge for them? Will they be able to make them affordable for everyone, etc.......

It's insane, I live in Valley Head, AL US and work in Chattanooga, TN which is where you have to go to have a halfway decent job here and I am running through about 100 USD a week. It's to the point here where we can hardly afford to even go to work.

    I have two possible solutions.

    1. Dillute your petrol, do maybe 50% petrol, 50% water and 50% lemonade. Thats 150% so you should get alot further in my thinking.

    2. Get a flux capacitor. If you get the Flux V2.0 as used in Back to the Future 2, you can run your car on garbage.

Disclaimer: If you use either method I take no responsibility for you suddenly having to walk everywhere. How ever you will save on gas so it would proove effective :)

I stopped dragging other mini vans @ stop lights :)

Really though I'd like to get an electromagnet for the front bumper, just drive up behind someone, flip the switch and BAM! ultimate drafting....kill the headlights and put it in neutral :D:D:D

Purchase your gasoline when it's coolest outside such as in the early morning or at night. Gas becomes denser in cooler temperatures. Since gas pumps only measure the volume of fuel - and not the density - you'll get better overall gas mileage for your money by purchasing fuel when it's cool outside rather than in the heat of the day.

I read the story and IMHO he's and ignorant idiot, if he truly wanted to save gas he'd move closer to work. By cutting down his commute from 2 hours to a few minutes he'd save a heck of a lot more gas and piss off a lot less people with his pityful driving.

When I got my new job, after 1 week of spending 2 hours+/day in traffic I said to my wife "screw this" and 2 weeks later we moved. It now takes me 7 minutes, 9 if traffic is bad, to get to work. I have 2 extra hours/day to play/work with, I'm less stressed out and I save massive amount of gas.

I think your answer is the right answer, it is just going to take a while for people to do that. It is also hard to change where you live when you have the real estate crisis at the same time.
