I like XP and never plan to upgrade to Vista, I'm going to sign it

 

Glad to see there's nobody here with logical thinking today.

Microsoft's business model: Release a new OS every 5 years, stop supporting the previous OS one/two years after the new OS is released.

It's this business model that makes Microsoft so successful. They don't physically make you upgrade - but, in reality, if you want a working PC, you have to upgrade sooner or later.

Microsoft have a monopoly. Linux and Mac operating systems are your Buck-A-Roo's.

Well, I can't say I'm optimistic about this having an impact, but I've signed it.

Microsoft have the monopoly and until such time as their major money earners, the OSs, are being threatened, they won't stray from a financially successful business model. Once we start to see Linux catching up to Windows in terms of functionality, compatibility and user friendliness we may see a change of tactics from MS, but until then you can continue to expect to pay exceedingly large amounts for buggy, rushed software.

 

A good idea would instead to be not to stop selling XP but to start charging for access to Windows Update for further updates for the soon to be retied operating system. This would be more logical and once people stopped paying they could then retire it because they would have substancial proof that it was not making sales.

I too did not like vista, but I got a new machine with 2GB or RAM and Dual Core, it runs like it should. Vista Ready doesn't really mean Vista ready, my previous machine had 1GB or RAM and a 1.7GHX Processor. I was however not impressed with performance.

Initially I also had problems installing Adobe products, however I obtained access to the Super Administrator account and installed from here under XP SP2 compatability mode.

Don't know what to say... I'm not sure that this will influence somehow Microsoft's decision.

Anyway, XP will be supported with updates, but many software companies are going to support Vista.

It's like back then when we were all crying about 2000, but now we're crying about XP. Next, we will cry for Vista, and so on.

Issues like what? Remember that software companies should adapt their software to Vista, so it's their fault for incopatibility. The same for drivers vendors!

I disagree, I think vista rocks.
It has so many tools, people just say bad things about it becuase they cannot afford it or they do not have the requirments.

Get a damn copy before they stop selling, ROFLMAO. I don’t see why people can’t buy a copy and STFU, you have vista? Think it sucks? Get XP before it stops selling, simple. At current XP is available, so buy a copy! I have a copy, glad I do. I could see if they instantly stopped selling it, for frogs sake they’re giving you a chance to buy a copy.

 

That's one true point, if Microsoft wanted to stop sales immediately, they can easily do that, and probably would of done. Microsoft is giving those a chance to get the last of Windows XP, as when new things come, you have to move on - and in this case, they need to concentrate on Windows Vista, which soon more people will start to be fond of. Just like new fashion, it takes a few months to get to grips with.

I have vista on my new laptop, and its a superb peace of equipment - I love the new elegant design and interface and it certainly is faster than my XP desktop. Many people have different opinions, but they don't state a valid point for it. I'm sure 90% of those who say "I won't upgrade to vista or get it with a new laptop" probably would eventually switch to vista, when the majority switch.

 

Having played with Vista, I think it is a worthy successor to XP, and it seems more.. stable, if that's the word. There are far less freeze-ups, which is great news
I think the memory usage is a bit nuts, but other than that, it is pretty good, and I was wrong. x)

 

My new laptop came installed with Vista Ultimate.

I uninstalled Vista and put on XP Pro from my old, blown-up laptop.

Let me tell you some facts.

Battery life went from ~2 hours 45 minutes to 3 and a half hours.

Everything went faster in XP according to various hardware scanners.

Long live XP, I say.

 

Screw XP.

It was a step forward in it's time, but still prone to crashes and whatnot. Vista is built like a rock; though occasionally software crashes, the system has never completely frozen to the point of a hard boot.

Memory usage? Yeah, it's high, but memory is dirt cheap.

On my 64bit Vista OS I have been able to run any program I've installed flawlessly.

More power to ya and your petition--I have to say that I love Vista though!

 

vista is like windows me. a total flop i i would say. i certainly keep my xp for a very long time
