Can I get some help, I am now running for my life from Microsoft coders. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-5517457.html?tag=zdnn.alert I found out that using Windows is a danger to my life and I need members to help me so that I am not wiped out. This is real lunacy at this point and there really is nothing they can do to stop it, so folks have to switch to MAC or Linux or else. I seen a story on the news, these folks lost 90 grand in an electronic transfer out of their checking account that hackers stole. The bank told them it was their problem because the banks servers were secure and the hacking took place outside of their network. So these folks were stuck trying to recover their lost funds by chasing down some crooks in Eastern Europe. You are responsible for your checking account and routing numbers in your computer if they are stolen, not the bank. I was reading that Microsoft has cost computer users over 50 Billion dollars in lost funds, security expenses and lost data. This guy was saying the same thing I was saying months ago, that class action lawsuits should be filed against them for Billions of dollars by those who have lost money and time using defective Microsoft products. For you that need some help with free software and a link to Firefox browser see the following page. http://searchwars.squarespace.com/free-software-downloads/ Free download links to anti-spyware/malware software also linked.
Smart people use MAC's or LINUX and the thing is Linux can be run on most machines that now run windows.
How about you post some Linux OS links Mushroom so folks can learn more? What browsers are used with the Linux OS's Mushroom?
I have 5, Opera, Mozilla, Konquorer, Epiphany, and Firefox which I use the most lately. As far as Linux links there are to many as there are over 200 distros see link below http://distrowatch.com/index.php?language=EN I use and recomend SuSE 9.2 Pro, also find Mepis very promising as they offer a live CD, that can boot from your CD drive and run with out disturbing anything to your hard drive.
/In distant voice Use the shell Luke, use the shell.... /voice Linux is a great choice for some. Do some research, then pick a week when you can sit huddled over your keyboard for a couple three days without any interuptions at all, keep plenty of Mt. Dew on hand.... when you emerge you'll have a totally different outlook on life
LOL, thats good There will be no use of the O word here young man. Actually when you emerge you will be without outlook. (in a good way)
2 or 3 years ago that was all to true, but with todays distros like SuSE 9.2 installs and configuration is all done using a GUI (Yast) with no need to use the command line, and takes less than an hour on a modern machine.
I must be a glutton for punishment.... been 'Slack'ing for almost 10 years now, down to less than 15 mins, 10 mins to install, a few more to tweak the deamons you want and you have a server/workstation that is ready to roll. GUI's are fine, but why waste the clock cycles processing crud for the screen when the all powerfull CLI is available? /begs forgiveness master, outlook on life, not Outhouse Excuse
Microsoft is rushing to put their finger in the dike so that the entire house of cards does not fall (it has already fallen folks), they have not developed the patch yet for some critical flaws that can be exploited. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1009_22-5532558.html?tag=zdnn.alert You can be sure that Microsoft is working 24/7 to insure that all of it's users will not be taken advantage of by porn operators looking to do drive by downloads (installation of 900 number dialers and other Malware). Trust Mr. Gates, he cares for you
As bad as IE is, don't think that you are safe with any other browser or OS. Here's a vulnerability in FF that allowed hackers to run their code on the victim's machine: http://www.securityfocus.com/news/9085 Then, again, there's Java and other plugins. Here's one discovered a few weeks ago (FF is vulnerable as well): http://www.securityfocus.com/news/10003 Same goes to OS - all of us who receive RH's errata know that security holes in Linux aren't as rare as one might think. What I personally hate about MS' products is their dependency on COM - something you cannot uninstall without trashing the system and something that can be accessed too easily by hackers. As for Mac, it's been around not too long and with the switch to Unix, Mac hackers have to learn a thing or two about hacking. Wait till that $600 box hits the shelves - there will be plenty of reasons for hackers to target Mac as much as they target Windows. J.D.
Hey J.D., where have you been the last few months? When major tech publications and the US Government tells folks to stop using IE, does that mean anything to you? Did you even read the two articles linked to in this thread or are you being paid by Microsoft to come on forums with propaganda?
You are missing the point - all software is buggy by definition. Some more, some less, but all of it is. If you think that by not using Windows you shield yourself from hackers, think again. Here, entertain yourself: http://www.securityfocus.com/bid As you can see, even your cell phone is not secure. If you reply to this, don't start the whole MS-vs-everybody-else thing. That's just too old to be interesting. J.D.
You may have been brain washed by Microsoft. "Say 'No' to Bad Code" http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1747884,00.asp As long as people are willing to pay for bad software it will be the norm.
