Hah - I just checked my adsense account - yowza - just the traffic from this thread has gotten me double my average page views, 20 times the clicks and I'm up to a $1.93

hah - Some of the ads that show up on that page are funny. Its pretty obvious I didn't set up the pages copy to effect the adsense ads - heh.

I'm thinking of doing pages like this for our family...like BIO pages for a family blog, just something fun to show the family.

Sweet - just reviewing the numbers from yesterday on this page - hits, clicks, CTR, and revenue - I was about to post, then a thought occured to me...how much of this am I allowed to share...seems like I remember reading that the TOS doesn't allow you to share CTR info...is that right...?

The page was created and posted around 3PM MST Sunday and got nearly 300 hits before Midnight. I imagine most of that is traffic generated by this thread, and some other forums I post on.

Will spikes in traffic like that flag my AdSense account for review or something..?

    EDIT:
It was mentioned by someone outside of DP that this page may be a violation of AdSense TOS - being new I haven't got a clue what part....?!

Any opinions..? See any TOS violations..? maybe I should just ax the ads..? C'mon you AdSense experts...help me out...what did I do wrong..? :(

I don't know... it almost seems like you're saying "Please click on my adsense ads so I can spend time with my child".

I KNOW that's not what you meant by this (so don't get mad at me!) but I can see how some people might take it that way.

The things that might be questionable are:

    1) you can't put a site up specifically to run ads.
    2) you can't ask people to click on your ads.

Personally, I think you are wwaaayyy in the safe zone. This obviously was a funny page you put up out of a little frustration and told your friends about. I didn't click an ad because you asked and I'm sure nobody else did either.

Cool - thanks for the feedback guys.

I just had a genuine laugh at myself.

At some point tonight I turned off active scripting to test a menu I'm working on for another website and then I forgot to turn it back on - I checked out my Anthony page and FREAKED OUT - heh no ads (active scripting was still turned off)

Maybe I should just put up some banners...like CJ or something..? I don't want to lose my AdSense account just for playing around

Things is you don't ask people to click on ads - you ask them to donate and provide them with a donation button.
I can't see that G would have any problem with this. Had you said 'click on ads' then that would be different, but you don't. So imho there is not breach of TOS.

I've seen pages where there was a header "Click this ad to support us" or stuff like that...but wheres the 'line'..?

For instance, I have seen pages for Google AdSense eBooks/tools/tips etc - wouldn't it be appropriate to discuss the fact that the ads on the page generate revenue in that case..? I guess as long as you don't suggest, promote or ask for visitors to click the ads you're okay..? or should you not even mention the ads..?

When I get around to making some serious content pages I plan on including include some AdSense but not as any central driving force - just as an added element to my pages - I guess I'll wait until I have specific questions to get a better idea about how to handle that.

I'm going to make at least one more page like this - my daughter is jealous
Any suggestions on changes..? (wait til you see my beautiful little girl - she's an Angel :D (Daddy's Girl)

I believe, according to the TOS, you're not supposed to do anything to draw attention to the ads (besides changing the colors of the ads or whatever).

Here is the official line from Google: "Web pages may not include incentives of any kind for users to click on ads. This includes encouraging users to click on the ads or to visit the advertisers' sites as well as drawing any undue attention to the ads."

I personally think you are safe, but I also see how Google might frown upon it. If you really want to make sure you are OK, I would take the ads off, send an email to Google asking them if its OK to put Ads on he site. Don't take our word for it, we're not the ones making the decision.

That was very funny. You've got a cute kid there. A few more sleepless years and you should have your adsense empire spread far and wide.... :D

    How crazy is this
    - the "Save Anthony from Online Marketing" spoof page is still going strong, and getting more visits/clicks than I ever imagined it would.

I've gotten some pretty funny emails, and even a couple donations through the donations buttons! - (buddies on a forum I frequent)

Too bad I promised Anthony he could have the $$ - I finally get something to work (well at least at my level - $ not $$$$) and I have already partnered the money away ;)

i think you are riding a dangerous wave. you may not be doing something entirely against TOS but if G has a slightest problem with your page, your acct will be in geopardy and they would not even be bothered to explain.

personally, i'd hate to be one of the advertisers whose ads are shown on your page. i think 90%+ of the clicks are meant to be a donation to you (or your cute kid)

    Nice job on the site

but...devbistro has a point. Google doesn't always have much of a sense of humor.

It is funny that you are pulling ads for singles. Just from the one mention of "loneliness".

Google does explain everything [other then fruad cases] to its partners. Like they had a problem with my gallery section they contacted me through email, I norified them that the ads are off from that place and they said you can still put the ads back on gallery proivded I remove some objectional material.
