Finally from within the Islamic world a significant religeous and government body spoke out on terrorism. The fatwa issued by Saudi Arabia's top religeous leadership defined terrorism, denounced terrorism, and denounced the funding of terrorist activities. Could be a step in the right direction. Meanwhile comments on it from a North African Islamic media source: http://www.magharebia.com/cocoon/awi/xhtml1/en_GB/features/awi/features/2010/04/21/feature-01
Great article, and interesting comments below. Definitely a step in the right direction. The only people who can really clean house in the Catholic church is the Catholic church. The only people who can really clean house on radical Islam are obviously Muslims. If this type of thing becomes popular in Muslim communities, it is going to grow very difficult for organizations like Al Queda, Hamas, and Hezbollah to recruit without reverting to conventional warfare techniques(or at least switching to military targets).
Two things of note: 1. Its not surprising that supporters of Islamic terrorists are not commenting on this thread. The action by the Saudi Religeous council, one of the most significant Religeous councils for all of Islam totally repugnates the actions of the fundamentalists terrorists. 2. Almost 9 years ago, immediately after 9/11 the Bush administration specifically targeted those that finance terrorism. Now nine years later this particular fatwa does the same. Progress, abeit slow.
