SatelliteDirect Vendor Cookie Stuffing

Can anyone confirm www.satellitedirect.com is cookie stuffing. It seems to be on/off and at the moment it seems to be on.

When I visit the homepage, it loads a cookie with affiliate id 'jose80'. Is it just some kind of trojan on my end or the vendor is being naughty?

It is on/off, but right now it seems to be cookie stuffing.

* Might be cookie stuffing on a timer, on a 'only google traffic, on every 3rd visit', or a vast combination of other sneaky server side variables.

* Might be nothing more than him using a rotator and giving out commission on any direct hits that don't come from an affiliate, to someone in his rotator. < Perfectly safe, unless he does it in combination with the above to mask what's really gwanin'. Might also be a rotator for his own other accounts, so he gets NO direct sales (still his $ though) and grav/%soldbyaff stays up.

Are you getting the jose80 only or are there others? Are you getting it even after you get there following your own standard hoplink or when you go direct?

Does it happen across I.E. and F.F. or just one? You shouldn't have direct linked his site from your thread as now they might see this via backlink notifications or logs, and turn it off for a while if it is a sham.

Seems to only work when visiting the url directly, in FF or IE. 'jose80' only pops up.

 

Seems like it's just the vendor preserving his charting so it seems like 100% of his sales are made by aff's when they are just being forwarded to jose80 if a surfer comes there directly. jose80 would undoubtebly be his acct as well. I wouldn't worry about it.

 

That seems to be the most accurate answer. The vendor's inflating gravity, anyways as long as the cookies are properly working at your end and you can see your affiliate ID on the bottom of the order page there's nothing much to worry about.

 

People need to do a little investigating on their own before they make threads with titles like "SatelliteDirect Vendor Cookie Stuffing"

Seriously. Don't just accuse people of doing crap just because you don't understand what's going on.

 

You do realise that customers dont buy right after the initial click? They bookmark or come back to the vendor's page at a later date, and if the vendor is 'cycling affiliate accounts' you lose the sale. To me that is dodgy and shady regardless of what anyone else thinks.

 

^ They only cycle the accounts if there is no cookie, they're not overwriting anyones cookie.

Or are you saying that WITHOUT CLEARING YOUR COOKIES, once you visit it with your own hoplink, then leave, then simply type in his.com your cookie gets overwritten? < If that's the case then yes very fuckin' dodgy. If it's the standard script that rotates ID's, it only fires when there is no cookie, meaning you would not have gotten the sale anyway.

EDIT: I just tried everything myself, you have nothing to worry about, and no he does not overwrite your cookie if you come back later going direct/bookmark/whatever... He's also #1 in the category with a high grav, rather hard to stick there if he's shaving.

 

I've tested it numerous ways (as I promoted this for awhile).

There is NOTHING shady going on. They are only assigning the Jose80 affiliate to uncookied customers coming to the site direct. They are not overriding anything.

 

I agree... they are not cookie stuffing. Nothing shady at all. Good product, decent price. Only problem is that every dog and his mother's farther's sisters cousin is prompting it so it's lots the high conversions it used to enjoy. Considering the amount of affiliates this product had you can rest assured they wouldn't have even dared trying any shady business.
