Satellite Internet - What are my options in a rural area?

As of now I live in a very rural area, with no cable, DSL, fiber optics solutions for a home network. For now - I'm subscribed to a local 128kb per month connection that comes wirelessly to our home. There are no faster options.

My question is - have you had any success with Satellite connections? Are they reliably fast? Wildblue? HughesNet? Also - what about Sprint Cards? Are there any options with a Sprint card to set it up for home network use?

Thank you for your time, and hope to hear some suggestions!

I lived in a very rural zone with no dsl, etc. Neighbors tried satellite internet. It was comparable to a poor dsl connection. Very unreliable in cloudy conditions. Not sure about the sprint/verizon cards.

I used HughesNet for two years and did not like it. There service wasn't to bad even in a snow storm but the bad part was they give you limited amount of downloading. When I started the service I was able to download 400 MB in a 4 hour period. If I went over that the connection became worse then dialup. When I finally decided to cancel the service they had reduce the limit to like 350 in a 3hr period. The other thing was the cost $70 a month.

I have a friend that use a verizon card on his laptop but he complains about the download limits too.
