If a motherboard supports SATA 3Gb/s devices (for example Chipset - 4 x SATA 3Gb/s connectors supporting up to 4 SATA 3Gb/s devices) and a hard drive that you intend to use in it is capable of SATA 6Gb/s it wont cause any problems will it? As in i dont need a motherboard that offers SATA 6Gb/s ?
Hi Kerosene, thanks thats good news, i noticed there were some motherboards with 6Gb/s connectors but higher priced or for Intel cpu's (an AMD guy here ) and i didn't fancy choosing a different motherboard just for that reason.
Are you buying a new motherboard, or using a SATA 2 motherboard that you've already got? If you were going to buy a new motherboard, you might want to invest the extra few $ in SATA 3. I've got a SATA 3 (6 Gb/s) motherboard running SATA 2 drives, with no need or desire to go any faster. The only reason I bought a SATA 3 motherboard when building my PC is because I tend to keep my computers for way too long (10 years), so I thought I'd try and future proof it for at least a couple of years.
Im buying a new motherboard, building a new pc, buying everything apart from mouse and keyboard, you're right, its probably worth me investing the extra few quid so that similar to your own situation it future proofs it. I also go quite a few years before a new build like yourself so yeah thinking about it now its probably worth getting a SATA 3 motherboard.
