Does anyone know if a website can be sandboxed for getting too many free directory listings? I have a newer domain that was ranked on the 2nd page of google (for keywords that werent too popular) but once I decided to add the site to about 10 or so directories, it seemed to have dropped off the face of the planet. any ideas?

To get links from free directories is not about spamming, it doesn't mean that website is going into sandbox. Get links from directories in relevant categories....

most sites get sandboxed for a period of time about 3-4 months after they are started. google do this to see if your site is trustworthy and will not just disappear as soon as it gets de-indexed. it's not a conspiracy, it's just some clever google guys!

10 directories? You must be kidding, I've got most of my sites submitted to more than 1500 directories and I've never had any problems with serps.

Just out of curiosity how old is ure site?

I have the same problem, after few submission in directory, my website disapear of google. Before i was on the 10 page for my keywords, now to find my website on google i need to type the url of my website. First time i have think my site was sandboxed, but after the reply of PSHeads i think my website was just too new for google.
