Sandbox or Penalty?

    I'm wondering if I've somehow incurred a penalty or if I'm just sandboxed. I have assumed the sandbox for some time now, but I was under the impression that the sandbox was for terms that are highly competitive.

    I was just googling to get to a specific page on my site by title, and I noticed that I'm ranked like 55th. allintext, allinanchor, and allintitle queries all rank me as #2 for the phrase.

    Yahoo has it ranked #2, MSN has it ranked pretty low as well (around 80-ish)... I'm just thinking it's a little bit strange.

    Shawn's keyword suggestion tool doesn't have the exact phrase, but it's top suggestion netted 29/day via wordtracker and overture came up with only two suggestions with a grand total of 9 searches/day.

    Now that I've tried the search with quotes, I come up as #5.

    Anyhow... what do you think? I can't think of why I would incur any penalties, but you never know. I could be doing something stupid without realizing it. I've done it before :)

    Sounds like sandbox? On my main site, which just got re-included into Google, I don't show up for anything (and I mean ANYTHING) unless someone searches for something with a period in-between the words, no periods at all, or with quotes that EXACTLY matches my page titles.

    Could u be a bit more specific? I remember that I have started building links for a new website of mine about a year ago. At first it showed pretty high in the serps and then it dropped a bit. Over time , around april this year I ranked first for all the competitive terms I had build links for. Thats more then 8 months that I didn't rank well and didnt get any good traffic from the engines. To compensate the loss in traffic I had to use Adwords, but thats a whole different story. So maybe you can be a bit more specific on how many months so far have passed? Does the actual url still show on the index? I think it does, reading your message, how would it then be a penalty? My understanding is that a penalty will drop you from their index. And in this case it isn't. You have mentioned as well that you are ranking well in Yahoo and Yahoo's algo got much stricter on linking structures lately, if it then would be some sort of a penalty I guess you would be kicked of Yahoo as well. It looks more to me like a being in the "sandbox" then a penalty. Give it some more time. In the meantime keep building links to the page.
