I seem to be able to rank new domain's for reasonable competitive terms in under 6 months now where as before it was taking over a year. Does anyone else think the sandbox effect is not as brutal as it once was?

Maybe still depends on what words your going for. I've found fairly competitive terms can start to rank around the 6 month period but the ultra competitive terms still seem to take much longer to rank.

I've seen a site rank on a competitive term (30,000,000 results) in under 6 months. I guess no-one outside Google knows the real story.

I don't think it is that bad. On one of my niches I am #4 on google and the site is only 1 month old now with 1100 backlinks
