"The commercial service (by Sprint Nextel) utilizing Samsung's WiBro technology will begin by the end of this year," said Choi Gee-sung, head of Samsung's telecommunications business, at the global tech exhibition CeBIT 2007 in this German city. "We also plan to supply Wibro-enabled devices (for Sprint Nextel)." WiBro is an improved version of WiMax that enables high-speed Internet connectivity even when a user is in motion. WiMax refers to a wireless Internet technology developed by the world's largest chipmaker Intel Corp. Samsung is one of the companies Sprint Nextel has been working with for its plan to launch the WiMax service for areas around Washington and Chicago starting as early as the end of this year. According to Choi, Samsung Electronics plans to unveil a new technology at the Beijing 2008 Olympics as an official wireless communications equipment partner. Samsung Electronics will continue to hold its 4G Forums to promote 4G communications technology, an upgraded version of existing wireless communications platforms such as wireless Internet WiBro, Choi added.
