I have a site that deals with Windows Vista, and hopes to focus on it's use by IT professionals. I have a tool that puts keywords I specify into Meta tags for the page. Since every page on the site is related to Vista, would it be good or bad to include 'meta name="keywords" content="Microsoft, Windows, Vista, IT Professional"' in the header for every page? My manually entered keywords for each post would then make up another 'meta keywords' line in the header (I believe it's OK to have multiple keywords meta tags, it just uses all the keywords it finds). It saves me time not having to manually enter them, but I wonder if their is any penalty for having the same keyword used on every page.
Its ok to have the same keywords Though keywords add little value now because of spam, you should however tweak them a little so that they are unique to each page; I can't imagine each page is identical in value to your audience. Is one a product guide? white paper? support?
It's better to have them different. And, using tons of keywords for meta keyword isn't a good idea....I'd say 4-7 keywords
Every page is different, but every one is about Microsoft Windows Vista, and would be of interest to IT Professionals. Perhaps I'll limit it to just 'Vista' for every page, and then manually add more specific keywords for each post then.
I would defo reccommend unique meta tags for each page, its one of the factors which contributes to supp index
