Say, I have a small network of websites of a specific topic - all on one server (with one hosting provider) - will it harm me if I crosslink them?

I have heard that at one time, it would be bad...but recently read an article by a hosting company that claimed that it would not hurt search engine rankings. Just to be safe and since hosting is so cheap, I just have a few hosting accounts.

If the websites are all host on the same class C IP address then crosslinking will not achieve much - Google says - hey these site are all run by the same person / company "not much value in their links"
