Hey all, For the past ~2 years I was sure that it's not a good idea to use same keyword phrase in all inbound links. Well, I have a very good example of how 1 website got #1 in Google in a pretty competitive niche. ALL their inbound links have the SAME anchor text: "Keyword 1 Keyword 2". 95% of inbound links are from sites which are on the same dedicated server, thus only 2 different IPs. The domain is ~6 years old, but it got this high in SERPS only recently. Did I miss something? Or is it OK to use same anchor text in inbound links?
The same anchor text in inbound links are perfect. You do need to get links from a larger variety of sites.
It depends on the no. of targeted keywords you have for your webpages. If your site has only one service to offer and if you want your site to rank for a particular targeted keyword then getting inbound links with the same anchor text is absolutely fine. But if you are offering different services then using different targeted keyword as the anchor in the inbound links is a better option. Landing pages in that case has to be relevant. E.g if you have page called webdesign.html then anchor text should be web design and it should point to webdesign.html so similarly use a anchor flash design for your flash.html page. Using proper anchor as well as pointing your inbound links to the relevant landing pages does help your site achieve high and stabilize search engine rankings. Thanks
it is advisable that not to use same anchor text for all inbound links, try different combination of niche keywords that will be more preferable.
Using the same anchor text keywords is perfectly fine if your targeting a very small number of keywords. It would also be worth varying the descriptive text that surrounds the anchor text on your link structure, this method will make the links appear more natural.
That's what I knew, and I thought that using the same anchor text should decrease their value by much more than it seems to be. Live and learn.
Hi, I am also interested in this, hope you don't mind me jumping in , if so I apologise. But I was lead to believe differently to some of the above replies, so are you saying that if your product/service is web design, that you can use web design as your anchor text in all your directory/article etc submissions? I was under the impression that you could get red flagged for this, purely as example if I submit to 7,000 directories and all the achor text is web design, doesn't G see that as unnatural link building? I was told that if you have say 10 sets, (10 different anchor text with 10 different descriptions) that you could get away with using these in around 2,000 directories without any red flags. I have one main single keyword that I want to jump a few positions in the SERPs for, so my question is how many times can you use the same anchor text and description without getting flagged? Dee
All websites are legit, all are working. Imagine having 30 websites about different PS2 games, and you also have 1 website for PC games. So all 31 sites link to each other. Can't report for something like that.
Yes, it's called "link farming" or "link scheme". You cannot inter-link your websites to boost your search engine ranking, that is called manipulation and is against the Google Webmaster Guidelines. You can only inter-link with the nofollow attribute being used.
Since when is that strictly forbidden? If you're a car dealer, and you seal 5 different brands, thus you own 5 different websites. Why would it be forbidden to interlink all 5 sites? Can you provide a source that would confirm your opinion?
Much better if you'll use variations of your targeted terms as anchor text to maximize your site's visibility on SERPs with different keywords.
