    Hello,

Does anyone know what technology is used to create the video of Sam that pops up when you first view callsam dot com?

    Flash I'm guessing?

Is there a utility / program that I can buy to make this?

    Any help would be appreciated.

It appears to be Flash to me. You can either buy Adobe Flash which is currently going for $699.00 www.adobe.com/products/flash/

Or you can go with a software that also produces flash .swf files such as Serif DrawPlus x2 for $99.99 www.serif.com/drawplus/drawplusx2/

Of course seeing that Adobe developed flash, there software would be more flexible. However if you are on a tight budget & just need to produce flash movies, then serif drawplus x2 is a great solution. :)

As far as additional technologies, the language used in flash is ActionScript2 & now the newer ActionScript3. The DrawPlus software supports AS2 outputs & Adobe's Flash supports both AS2 & AS3 outputs.

I own Both Serif DrawPlus x2 & Adobe Flash, So I speak from being a user of both :)

    Hope that helped a little....

It does help scorpionagency and thank you! I have Flash (full version), but I was hoping there was some type of software package that made these, I'd just take a video of myself against a white background and then plugin the video and out came the flash version.

    Again, thanks!

It seems that once you make your movie, you would need to edit all the background in each frame so that it's transparent (Or the same color as the BG it will be on). Once this is done, you would need to add Javascript to your flash.

Here's a tutorial I stumbled on that shows how to add Javascript to Actionscript2 so that the movie Popsup on the page & starts to play .
    www.flash-db.com/PopUp/JavaScriptPopUp.php

Not sure if it's exactly what you wanted to do, but it seems like a solution. :)

    Hi TooHappy,
I remember when this overlay flash thing was coming out I did do a lot of reading on it.. But for the life of me I can't think what it is called.. I think someone at the dvinfo forums did a step by step on how to do it (trial and error type stuff) but I can't remember the name or the thread  sorry.
You could try and have a search there for terms like overlay flash on websites, alpha channel flash website, etc.. in the DVD and Web delivery section.

Anyway from memory you need a program that will encode flash in an alpha channel.. you can use a white wall but I would not recommend it.. blue or green is a better choice.
You could do the keying (green screen) in a video editing program like premier, or liquid edition (what I use) or FCP.. Off the top of my head I cant think what format to output to, but that may come to me..
Anyway.. A program that does encode to an alpha channel and claims to be able to do green screen all in one simple program is flix pro from On2 technologies .. about $299 i think.. I have never used this for encoding flash so I can't say how good it is, but a lot of people praise it.. the new Sorenson Squeeze 5 may also do alpha channel, you should also check that out.. more expensive (around $499 for the basic version) but if its anything like the earlier version (4.5 the one I have) it will do a fantastic job encoding to any format.

Any way, hope that sort of points you in the right direction and if I remember what the whole process is called I will let you know..

    Cheers
    James

There's a guy on Warrior Forums that makes these videos for you. He calls them "walk-on" videos. He even has a lot of actors and actresses you can choose from.
