I would like some "real" sales copy writing resources. Please don't promote something that you are affiliated with. I want real good resources. Are there any services out there that will write salescopy for a product for a fee? chad
Nothing particular right now, I have some ebooks and might create a few, but need to find someone to write some salescopy for me. chad
I know sitesell.com has a book called make your words sell. That's the only reputable one that I can think of.
What are the subjects of these ebooks? ( Example: cooking, computers, web promotion...) How many ebooks do you have? Do you require individual sales letters for each or 1 sales letter for the whole as a pack? Are you also giving resale rights or re distribution rights along with the download? What is the market you would like to target? ( A copy for USA market would be different from Indian market both in terms of product explanation and the layout.) Or would you like a general approach? If you want you can use the email here to discuss it further. regards jeet
Chad, Nothing to promote here, but here's an idea. What about reviewing some of the top copywriters salespages and emulating them. Many good copywriters started out this way by creating "swipe files" of all the good copy they find by people such as Agora Publishing, Dan Kennedy, Yanik Silver, etc.. and tweaking them to meet their own needs. Just a thought.
You want a copywriter. If you want to do it yourself, you can formally educate yourself or hit the bookstore. There are many great books out there. Look for ad copy, sales, advertising and so forth. While creating "swipe files" is a good idea, it's only good if you know what you are looking at. In other words, why does this copy work? If you don't know that, you are dead in the water. Search engines are your friend. Get to googling and good luck!
Sales copies for an online audience are basically offshoots of direct marketing in print. Brooklyn and MarketJunction offered some great advice... the best way to learn how to write a good sales letter is to study the style and formula used by exisiting sales copies with high conversion rates. John Reese's Traffic Secrets sales page, at www.trafficsecrets.com , netted for him a million dollars in one day. Gary Halbert offers a newsletter that discusses some tips on how to excel in copywriting. You could view them at www.thegaryhalbertletter.com . You may want to consult with timeless classics. One fine example is Robert Collier's Million Dollar Sales Letters. You could read it for free here: http://www.e-comprofits.com/collier.html .
Thanks for everyone feedback. I guess I need to learn, but I am deathly afraid of trying or wasting time doing it. I rather just pay someone to right a good sales page or squeeze page. But then again, if I don't know how to do it, how do I know if I am getting my money's worth. So much fun. chad
You've gotten some good advice. 1. Building a swipe file 2. The Gary Halbert letter But here's the problem: When building a swipe file, you need to know what to add. Agora publications tests thousands of ads. Only some pull. They have in house staff writers, they use freelancers, and in the end, even a trained eye is only a guess. The "best" writers in the world choke sometimes. As a matter of fact, just a month or so ago, an in house writer at Agora wrote a piece that pulled in $9 million in sales in a month. That was huge. Now whether or not he repeats those types of numbers is yet to be seen. That's the type of letter you keep in your swipe file. (I have a copy As far as learning, I'd say there's 2 ways of doing it. #1 The "quick" way #2 The long haul way Both will get you where you want to be in the end, but obviously #1 will get you there faster. Let me explain. #1 The "quick" way Totally immerse yourself in the study of direct-response copywriting. Earl Nightingale in his famous "Lead the Field" audio course says if you read 1 hour a day, about your field of endeavor, you'll be an expert in a years time. What happend if you multiply that by 4? Are we talking months? Yes. But you still won't be a "master", but you'll be very competent. Here's how you do that. Buy and get every "reputable" course on writing ad copy. Inside, you should get a "swipe file" of profit generating ads. Study like mad. Hand write sales letters word for word. Repeat process. Listen to as many audio programs about copywriting as you can. Here's a list of "reputable" resources: John Carlton's course $5,000 AWAI course $497 (Great starting point... just don't fall for the "spec" work) David Garfinkel's copywriting templates $997 Michel Fortin's Thecopydoctor.com monthly membership $30 a month (It's a look over my shoulder program...excellent) If you got these products, studied them like a madman... you'd be off! Plus the garyhalbert letter. The money invested will easily be returned to you in a short period of time. I know that from experience. #2 the long haul way Buy these books: Scientific Advertising/My life in advertising (all in one book) Breakthrough Advertising How to write a good ad Tested advertising methods (4th edition) Ogilvy on advertising Advertising secrets of the written word Reality in advertising This is a very good foundation to build on. Nurse them. Memorize the essence of them. Get your hands on a "world class swipe file" hand write letters til kingdom come and in a few years, you'll finally "get it". It's less expensive this way... or is it? My personal experience is to do both. Dynamic Immersion into a new subject matter has always been my way, but it's not for everyone. It does skyrocket you to the top though. Hope this helps. Zachary Romero www.profitableink.com
Where did you read about that guy bringing in $9 million in a month from one sales letter? I'd like to read about that. I am already familiar with Agora Publications and am a member of one of their organizations.
The best skill you can have is the ability to write persuasively. Whether you know it or not, there is an underlying formula behind every great sales letter written. Some people write copy that will produce only satisfactory results because they do so by guesswork and imitation. The most powerful thing that I've learnt is that the human response to the written word is predictable and formulaic if done correctly. And so when you learn what is capable of triggering that response, you are automatically infinitely more powerful than before and possess the ability to extract money from other people. One day, I realised that I was purchasing products off the internet simply by reading some words on my computer screen. If there is an underlying system that is causing me to respond in this manner, then surely this system can be learnt and replicated for my own benefit. The best program I've found to coach someone in the art of copywriting and effective written persuasion is Michael Masterson's Accelerated Program fox Six-Figure Copywriting. He is the author of Early To Rise and is one of the minds behind the Agora Publishing behemoth. Learn from the best. This program comes highly recommended by the great Allen Says of Internet Marketing Warriors Fame. Just google Michael Masterson for more information, or even better, if you're lucky you might be able to grab a discounted copy from ebay.
Zachary, what do you mean by "spec" work? I recently came across AWAI, and after a good read through their promotional content online, was extremely impressed with how they managed to get me so interested in a sales letter that was easy 10 pages long. Do you know anyone that has studied at AWAI? It all seems a little to good to be true, from what I've read on thier site.
I keep changing my mind as to what is the best approach for me, but I have decided on one thing. After seeing all the mixed reviews and some very mediocre results from content I have bought, I do need to learn to write better copy. If for no other reason, to be able to evaluate what I buy. I believe it will actually be better to toss bad copy away than putting it on an affiliate site.
Hi, Don't know where you ended up in your quest to hire a copywriter. If you're still looking, contact me . As far as trying to determine what good copy is, the answer is that you can't possibly know... until you put it out there. I can "pretest" any copy you put out there for response rates... so you'll have a good idea of how it'll pull when we go "live"...
If it converts thats how you know your getting your moneys worth. If your going to hire someone don't mess around, top notch copywriters cost thousands of dollars because there material gets results. There are some software tools I use that are invaluable, but essentially you are going to want to get a multivariable testing program. It's like split testing on crack.
the quickest and easiest thing to do is just go to clickbank.com and learn from their great sales letters. you know they work as there are people who are apparently just making a living by sending traffic to these clickbank sales letters and taking a commission
Check that... pick products from clickbank that actually sell, not everything in the marketplace converts well or sells at all.
