I had a sales guy call from a search engine marketing consulting firm and he inquired about my title (are you a VP?) and then tried to throw me off by asking about my quality score (I said all the important ones are 10s) and if I knew what conversion tracking was (that's what I implement first). He wasn't getting any where so he asked: "If upper management hired an SEM consulting firm, is there a possibility that your job would be threatened?" Nice veiled threat. My answer was no because I cover a lot more aspects of our e commerce business and probably have done most of what they do any way. But it was very interesting how aggressive this guy got. Usually they try to get around guys like me to a less informed, higher level "decision maker" but I have my C level guys trained to pass these guys back to me or chase them away.
