I have a question for experienced sales page writers: I'f I'm creating a page to sell product and i have a special coupon code. is it best t do my best to sell the product then try and capture the email address in order to email them a coupon for 15% off along with other exclusive "how to content". Or is it better to put the coupon code on the page up front and not try and collect any information? Any experience on which works better for conversions both short term and long?
Collect information - definitely, it's always best to have a list, period - take it from someone who knows. Lior Reuveni Smiley Marketing.
Try not to use a coupon up front it tends to cheapen the value of the product. But you can and should offer one at the end as a thank you for reading that far or a token of your appreciation. I always like to say that you don't want the reader to miss out on benefit, benefit, benefit, and you feel so strongly about this that you're going to buy down his price by the value of the coupon. That's one of the best ways to use coupons. Another good techniques is writing and using a Free Report as bait. Oh, I know you think I mean sales letter, but no, seriously take a couple of hours and write a quick 5-10 page report on whatever problem your product solves. Or the 10 things to avoid when buying your type of product. I'm sure you get my point... Now make sure that this Free Report is about 80% actual informative content, then leave the last 20% of the content to closing a sale or requesting more information. Remember real info. Now you might be asking, If I've already told them so much why would they buy my product? That's where the law of reciprocity comes in. But you're not done yet here comes the secret to making this work...in the report you tell them what to do, not how to do it. If they want to know how to do it they need to buy your product or contact you. Nick Xifaras Copywriter
If the consumer provides the information of their own volition, it is certainly not in violation of any law (at least in the U.S.) I would include your coupon code up front, as it offers your customers an important value proposition. Or, you could say "click here to learn how to save 15%" then collect their information from that screen, giving you both the up-front value of seeing "15% off" (boosting conversion) but also collecting valuable consumer info. Good luck!
People are highly motivated to save money. A coupon is one of the best "offers" you can have to build an email list. Use it. Put it right out there. Collect the opt-in and then email them the coupon. I use GetResponse. It's cheaper than Aweber and the deliverability is about the same. Once you have delivered the coupon you have the duty to follow-up with email and that can be a lot of work but it is also one of the ways you will win in this business. If you fail with email follow-up your chance for success is much less so it's an area where sweating the details pays off.
rgordon83 - So which way did you end using? I think collecting information upfront would be best too. Just curious to know what your experience was from all this. Dave
adding a coupon code on your salespage will just show how desperate you are for someone to buy from you... tht will surely drive people away... a better way to incentivize would be to offer bonus materials, guarantee support and offer free updates .... seems more professional and the buyer will rely on you even more.
