I have to disagree. Anyone who voices an opinion on controversial subjects (such as in the politics/religion forums) can easily find themselves in the red. Considering how much rep abuse there is here, it has no value. I have an 11 itrader rating and have successful transactions with more than 15+ members here, if I went red for saying i hated bush, i shouldn't be able to sell anymore?

Can a temporary ban on trading not be imposed by a mod when a seller starts being abusive or selling sites that are using tricks which might later cause a buyer problems?

I didn't notice the "trick" he used with the YPN advert... until it was mentioned by someone, I was impressed by his success with revenue from insurance adverts and thought it might be worth it. But, I have a feeling that if that advert "trick" was removed the earnings would be almost nothing ...

Anyone who purchased it would have had a horrible shock when they were either a) banned from YPN (if they can even get on YPN) due to the placement or b) changed the placement so it's within the TOS and saw little or no earnings.

So, it is good people post their opinions and questions, even ones not interested in purchasing the site; it's not trashing a thread but making potential buyers aware of problems they might encounter. At least, for me personally, I consider this a Good Thing (tm).

    Just my £0.02.

PS: I just noticed that that the site is now using adsense...

Then Mods are responsible if you find something later...Plus they have to monitor every thread.

I would suggest giving any site you are considering lots of scrutiny. Luckily here a lot of people do that and post about it.

    A very good point.

Of course, people should be very careful, however some people who are new to this might not spot some things. Or at least, I didn't spot the advert-trick. Would it be possible to have a sticky-topic about buying sites? I did a quick search and found this:
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=36105

and some other threads, too, with good advice ("buying guide").

Of course, a disclaimer such as "this is user-contributed advice/user-opinions and not official advice from digitalpoint or mods"...

Well, just my £0.02... maybe a bad idea.

Its not that its a bad idea, its that Mods here at DP spend very little time modding. Every Mod is an active poster and you would be hard pressed to find one of us volunteering to check sites. Stickies are always proposed but the problem is people rarely even read them so they end up just being an annoyance (Ever see a forum where they have like 10 stickies and it takes you a while just to get to the posts)

With iTrader, everything is visible if a seller tries to rip anyone off, it won't happen again.

Sorry, I possibly wasn't very clear: I didn't mean mods (or anyone else) to check sites individually. What I meant is something like in the thread I referenced. People (whether mod or just a mere mortal) can contribute advice such as what to look for in a site, what to avoid, etc. There seems to be a lot of experience people posting in this forum with good advice to give. I found reading this forum helpful (thank you!).

I agree, 10 stickies is bad, but I meant a single sticky ("general hints on buying a site") might be preventative in someone getting ripped off.

But I guess you're right ... not many people read them. At work, we have a database of "guideliness & processes" that's allegedly 1GB in size (including PDFs, MS-Word docs) and no-one has read it completely.

I also notice that he final Shows the adsense title link but isn’t having two CPC ads on one page against TOS.

Just as a note, I bought a site from him, and we were okay friends.

He just messaged me out of the blue and because I was a friend of CPVR he started cursing me out and using profanity words, I have a copy of the messages if anyone wants to see them, I've already shown CPVR.

Actually im having the same situation here. I set-up my own ads using custom colour palette ... this "ads by yahoo" phase just wont come out.

That's because when you change the background color from #FFFFFF to anything else, the "Ads by Yahoo" will change to a white font, which is different from the black font on with the #FFFFFF.

only if they're both context-sensitive, I believe. But I am not sure if the "What's new?" above a google ad is ok. But I'm not an adsense user, so someone else will know better than I.

@creepah, hello, there are some problems with the layout in IE... on some pages there's a lot of blank space and then the content (usually off-screen). e.g. member profiles, and the /members page.

Creepah resigned from DP so try emailing him using the whois info

As for this thread, he isn't selling the site anymore here so rather then beat a dead horse, it might as well be closed
