What do you think is the safest payment process out there? Paypal seems risky, especially with large amounts.

Paypal is okay if you play by the rules. Paypal takes their TOS and Agreement seriously so do not break them or think you can get away with it.

Like I said, if you follow Paypal rules you should be safe. To protect yourself from chargeback and disputes, you will need to follow the rules, ie ensure that you have physical proof of delivery so that you can claim you delivered the product. Without physical proof of delivery, it is hard to proof. When delivering your product, use DHL, Fedex or one of the respected courier service. Digital delivery does not have any protection.

Also only deal with Verified customers and ensure that you do your due diligence to determine that it is not fraud.

Basically, chargebacks would apply to any credit card payment processors you use.

All depends on what country you are in, the amount of volume and the type of business. Each processor will have it's own rules, an IPSP (Internet Payment Service Provider) will have their rules as well, and then you have the regulations from Visa / MasterCard as well.

People on eBay know that it's easy to abuse Paypal. All you need to do, after all, is to check your package for a delivery confirmation slip. If you don't see it, do a chargeback, claim you never got the product, and Paypal will ALWAYS decide in your favor. I lost a lot of money on eBay with that.

Otherwise, Paypal seems fine. I've been using it for selling digital products for over a year and nothing has gone wrong.

Google checkout is recommended but they arent available anywhere for selling except US and UK.

I'd say be in Paypal's TOS and AUP and if you think anything suspicious report it or call them. They are very strict about their TOS and wont be loose in that.
