How can this be? I edit the .xml file, save it and publish it, and the reader (safari RSS) still displays items that I have deleted from the .xml source file. How is it possible? Or how can I prevent that and ensure that it displays only what my edited .xml file contains? (and not what it used to contain) The deleted items (in the feed) that are still displayed share the same title. PS: VIENNA too. VIENNA displays one deleted item. Safari RSS displays two deleted items. To illustrate what I am saying: One of the items in the .xml file is titled "07/26 2007". It had contained two more items with the same title but they were edited and deleted, and now only one item is left with that title. Yet, RSS readers still display the deleted items (with the same title). Vienna displays one of the deleted "07/26 2007", Safari RSS displays the two deleted "07/26 2007" items. The feed URL is feed://www.bottomofthehill.com/calendar.xml
Cached versions most likely. Try clearing your temporary internet files, than reload. All clear here: http://www.feedest.com/feedHost.cfm/host/bottomofthehill.com
Thanks for taking the time to reply (you even followed the link to check! Thanks). Yes, that's what it is. Cached versions. In a way I wish RSS readers were designed to not include cached versions... That can make it confusing. It's fine that it keeps original info after it is re-edited but not info that is deleted. One certainly wants to be very careful not to make a mistake, for that will show up for a few days --even if it is deleted.
This is the reason why feedest.com only caches feed title, description, version, URL, etc. (which gets re-cashed at the next crawl), but not actual items, so the feeds are always real-time. It's a give/take situation. Non-cache is real-time. Cache is faster since there are no calls to external sites at rendering time.
