This is the first time in my life that I'm forced to admit that the Russians have outdone the US. I'm sure there's no threat (either that or the US is just downplaying some incoming catastrophe), but I'm blown away at the two responses: US: It's nothing, even though we admit our math has been wrong a few times in calculating it's course, we're pretty sure it's not going to hit us so we won't worry about it. Russia: We're gonna move it slightly out of the way just in case. We're going to spend several hundred million $ on a project just to make sure it won't obliterate part of our planet. I'm giving Russia a huge thumbs up today. edit: removed the body of the story, didn't realize they had a 'do not distribute' tag on it. Click the link to read the full story.
The article says it has a rare chance to hit in 2032. I think this is a wake up call that we should put more emphasis on our NASA program.
Last time Russia challenged us like this we ended up wasting a ton of money to land a guy on the surface of a giant dust ball just so he could stick a flag there and say neener neener. We're not falling for that again.
