After rejecting the russian offer to work on this shield together, and knowing the fact that its located 170 km from our west border you want me to think that this shield is anti----marcian? Use a bit of logic.

Missile defense is defensive. Russia is losing it.

"Missile defense, of course, is aimed at no one," Rice said. "It is in our defense that we do this."

She denounced an earlier threat from a Russian general to target NATO member Poland, possibly even with nuclear weapons, for accepting the facility.

Such comments "border on the bizarre, frankly," Rice told reporters in Warsaw. "The Russians are losing their credibility," she said, adding that Moscow would pay a price for its actions in Georgia, though she did not specify how.

Rice is bluffing. If the facility is ever built, then a couple of Russian terrain-hugging supersonic cruise missiles would take it down. Stupid neocons are just under-estimating the Russians. This is not unprecedented, though. We have already witnessed 2 wars where they committed the same folly.

If you notice Poland used their citizens "unrest" about having these missiles on their soil to drive a harder bargain. Negotiations have been going on for a while over the placement of the defense shield and poland simply tried to squeeze more out of the deal. I believe one of the main reasons for the polish accepting the missiles now is because of the crisis in georgia.

    Coming late to this thread.

But it very nearly did. The stand down is a game of brinksmanship we can't afford any longer.

Having read the article in full, I do not see how you can conclude this. By my read of the article, the Poles are willing to accept the system, not because they perceive a threat from Russia, but because they hope to gain concessions from the United States on things they do deem important. Bottom line, I do not see how there is any way to construe:

-as being seen, through the Poles' eyes, as something vital to their national interest out of a perceived threat from Russia. From my read, Grim is right here, too, in saying that Russia's threat came after, not before, the posed system.

The article makes it quite clear to me that the Poles do not see the system as "their" system, in "their" interest, but are willing to go along with U.S. intent, so long as they garner what they believe is an equitable quid pro quo.

Oh yeah))) If you are going to listen to Rice you will end up like Georgia ;)

Rice is clearly supporting her own interests. So this person cannot say anything REAL. You better listen the Polish people.

C'mon Medvedev/Putin, place the same sh*t on Cuba/Venezuela! :D The reason will be the same: Cuba asked to help them))) I'd love to see the Rice's face then! I think the nex day Rice will call Russia an ALIEN)))

    Here you go:

"Russia says ready to supply Syria with defensive weapons" :

    http://en.rian.ru/world/20080821/116199385.html

The first step taken))) defensive, right? No need to worry about it ;)

    The game started.

Proof after proof this admin under Bush wants arms race and wars wasting our tax money. This time America and the west will be the loosers though.
You can't support wars and arms race and be a good guy. No way. More and more people will hate America and her supporters and fewer people will be willing to do business with the extremist west. For example if you don't like the owner of a store would you buy googs from him?

My non-offensive post was wiped too.

N F S, I apologize. I did the immature thing. And I was watching Harold and Kumar escape from guantanamo bay at the time of my post.
