Depends on what country you are in. Companies will sue you if you are in nations where you can be reached, thepiratebay has never been taken down because it is in a place where it can not be gone after.

uhh, no. TPB is located in sweden. The location of the servers was raided. The owners have been arrested, sued, and found guilty of copyright infringement. However, all of their legal troubles have only made them stronger. People around the world mirror the site so if one server gets knocked out they simply use a mirrored site in another country. The only reason TPB is successful is because the legal system is slow to react to them. A trial will take months to get in the process and once the site gets knocked down the server only stays down for a few days then its back up. Also if TPB was to be shut down just imagine all the copycats out there who are going to rush in to be the next person to create the next pirate bay.

I would rather suggest to run a Rapidshare search engine as P2P usage is dropping.

I was under the impression that Swedish laws protected TPB despite other countries trying to get them, I guess I stand corrected.

Most countries succumb to international pressure sooner or later. Miogle unless a year in jail and $3.5 million in fines sounds good, you should probably think of another concept.
