I plan to start a network of web directories.
But I see it would be useful if hosted under separate IP Addresses.

Currently I am using HostGator for hosting.
Is it possible to host multiple sites under one single hosting account with mulitple IP Addresses?

It is better to not waste IP space with directory networks. There is no way you can run loads of directories properly at once.

It'll just look like a bunch of link selling general directories that'll get penalised. You won't get a good ROI too as SEO hosting isn't cheap.

I agree. There are too many of these networks already.

Both hostgator and godaddy have multiple IP options, I didn't know that hostgator is cheaper (thanks pipes). I second mikey and canadianeh about directories networks being either useless or not being profitable for owners, would be glad if you can make a good business case.

jitendragg - I do think goduddy is cheaper but host gator is by far better - I had a bunch of issues with goduddy and even blogged about it recently (the blog link in my sig)

You can host multiple sites on the same account with host gator. You can also get dedicated ip addresses for them.

Your best bet would be to contact host gator and get the answers directly from them.

Now that I know, I wish I would have started with one, as ONE is far too much of work as it is to be considered a "quality" web directory.

Make one and work on that, One directory that you will be working on a daily basis, should take a few years to mature.

The install a directory scripts overnight and call it a "web directory" is over.

Do the whole directory industry a favor and set up one or two quality directories instead of a network of 20 crappy ones.

Thanks for all your advices. I will contact my web host for the multiple IP feature.
I guess I need to rethink about the directory network plan.

Infact my plan was to start directories, one my one - spread over a period of time.
I understand it takes time to fetch profits but on the same time it yields a passive income once the directory is established.
