Running an Adwords Campaign the first time....

Hi Everyone, Just wanted your opinion on this. A business associate was telling me that the first time you run a campaign on Adwords, do not use the keywords you really want to use. Test out keywords that have nothing to do with your product/service. He says that using specific words right away could harm you if Google decides not enough people are clicking on your ad. They will then drop you in ranking , or worse, not let you back on later.

    Does this make sense???

Not really, no. If you try to use keywords that have nothing to do with your product/service/landing page they are likely to be either prohibitively expensive, or not run at all, due to lack of relevance.

I wouldn't suggest doing anything like that. Start off with your keywords and make sure you target those keywords on your landing page and everything should be fine.

I agree as well... it would affect your overall CTR and quality if you use non relevant keywords. You'll be asked for higher bids for them, won't meet your ROI expectations and will be disappointed by adwords, while it can be very profitable if well used...

Thanks everyone....that makes sense to me, i dont see any point using keywords that arent relevant....

Another question though, what if some keywords I would like to use are on my other pages, not necessarily my landing page?
