I run my sites on business DSL with two static IPs. It costs around CDN $85 per month. I have used colocation and will go back to it if traffic becomes too big for my DSL connection. The last time cost around U.S. $95 per month. That company now charges $109 for a machine with 1 gig of ram.

The primary reason I switched to DSL was to have more control over the specs on the machine. The downside is that I have more control over the machine.

To me that is the real appeal as well. It's especially nice if you have movies that take a long time to upload via ftp. However, I'm not sure how long it would take for Comcast to get upset if you tried to stream videos.

Anyone have experience with Verizon's FIOS offer for just under $200 that gives you 30 Mbps / 5 Mbps ?
