Great script that has a very easy to use admin panel. If you can follow simple installation steps then it should be no problem running phpLD. I would suggest you start out with a free one for practice then update it to paid once you have a good feel for it. Many custom templates and a few mods out there. Hope this helps you.

Thanks, phpLD loks good, and its cheap ($25). I'm curious about the best way of starting up when your directory is still empty. I mean, are people somewhat reluctant to submit to an empty dir?

phpLD 3 would be my choice too. It's the best directory software out there and the price ($25) is excellent!

If you have a free and Search Engine Friendly directory, and you announce in a few webmaster forums, you'll see regular submissions coming through. Get your directory listed in some lists for web directories and also promote it in your DP and forum sigs.

I think you should go to website that outsource to india and such, they will give you the best deal as far as building a website goes.

I don't think they will be reluctant to submit to an empty directory. Especially the featured listings, since its first come first serve.

But the best thing to do is build quality links to your directory.

You will need to spend money to get somewhere.

I started Linkspub and had 0 links.

Nobody would bother to spend even a dollar on it.

I slowly built up my links, currently 55,000 right now and continue to do so.

Well now traffic and listings come naturally.

Which paid mods are you talking about? The category dump is freely avaliable and rest can be obtained from phplinkdirectory's forum.
