Right now I own and operate 5 membership websites.

I have 1 main site that does about 80% of my income the rest of my income comes from the other 4 sites. I try to create a new site about every 3 - 6 months depending how much time I have. However each time I make a new site that site gets less traffic and makes less money then the one before it.

So my question is do you believe it is better to run 1 big main site and give it your all OR have a bunch of sites up and running with each making small amounts of money.

Thats why you have to plan, analyze right before you start. Always may plan how you gonna monetize it, how much others are earnings. I dont like to run too many sites same time if I cant afford the time.

A variety of companies underneath one big company.

In terms of websites, though, if you've got a really solid plan and a large site which you think has enough potential to earn you a decent income then I say focus on that one project. I feel that total project dedication is a must for any site which has plans of being highly successful.

If you do multiple smaller websites, you are able to basically exchange links with yourself if the sites share SOME sort of common interest.

In my experience, it's the one big one you take most seriously that will work, everything else is just distracting you from the money maker.... It's nice to think you'll have a bunch of things working, and sometimes they do, minimally, but again, in my opinion based on my experience, they are mostly just a distraction from what you really should be spending your time on....

I would prefer multiple smaller businesses to one large business.

    Hi All!

I like the one about not putting all your eggs in one basket.
The most likely reason why the newer sites make less money than the one before it is just that: they are newer. This means that they do not have the same rank, age, etc. on the search engines as the older sites and thus receive less traffic.

I agree, more sites are better than 1 site. In case of competition etc, the main site
may not be so profitable in the future.

    Some good points.

Thank you. I have to agree with the one. I do see the other sites sometimes as getting in the way of me focusing on my one big main money maker, and have to remind myself I cannot just let that one guy as its my main source of income.

    Chris.
