Rumsfeld makes unexpected visit to Iraq

With only nine days left on his job, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld made an unannounced appearance in Iraq on Saturday to say farewell to U.S. troops, a Defense Department spokesman said.

Rumsfeld went there "to express appreciation to the troops for what they are doing and for the sacrifices they and their families are making," said Lt. Col. Todd Vician. He did not say when Rumsfeld arrived.

Rumsfeld will be replaced December 18, when former CIA Director Robert Gates takes the oath of office.

The 74-year-old Washington veteran said an emotional goodbye Friday to Pentagon employees at his last town hall meeting, and praised them for their work.

As history unfolds regardless of political views or aspirations I still believe that
if Rumsfeld had, had a better team around him at the head of affairs he Rumsfeld would have got the job done in Iraq

Lets hope that whoever gets us out of this mess in Iraq, cleans up effectively to give some honor to the brave soldiers who have battled on regardless of the surrounding political ambience.

And lets remember Rumsfeld as a guy who worked tirelessly to overcome the odds against to prevail in Iraq

Rumsfeld deserves some credit for that from all sides of the political spectrum

Ah mate I was just about to post a thread about this and see you beat me to it. :D

With the situation as bad as it is out there the last thing the troops need is a visit from Rumsfeld, haven't they suffered enough? :(

Yes sure they have suffered but I still believe Rumsfeld tried his best although if he had beefed up the number of troops years ago, we probably would not be in the dire situation that we are in now

Sure the troops have suffered and that is the disturbing problem period

They had the 'tools to do the job' but some w**kers higher up the pecking order than Rumsfeld prevented that from happening

But weeks into the so-called Baker-Hamilton ---- Bi-Partison period I still have yet to see a significant improvement to the overall situation in Iraq

    And
Procrastination is the thief of time and the loser of lives

Situation now, like under the Republicans when they had a free hand stillSucks

Sorry mate I am in agreement with most of your views and outlooks that you post here in P&R forum but have to disagree with you on this one, Rumsfeld is (was) one of the most crazy warmongering assholes involved in the current debacle. I have nothing but contempt for the man with his downright arrogance and incompetence, to be honest I was surprised by the content of your first post in this thread, mine would have been a little less kind towards him. :p

He is a very dangerous man, nowhere near as dangerous as Dick Cheney (who is the most dangerous of them all) but he's still dangerous. :(

At least he is almost out of harms way. For now.

Now AGS you are talking REAL sense Cheney is a Psychotic Maniac

A psychotic episode is often described as involving a "loss of contact with reality".
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychosis
Psychosis is a generic psychiatric term for a mental state in which thought and perception are severely impaired

    Cheers buddy. :)

If ratings were made on a scale of 1 to 10 on how psychotic someone is Cheney would be 100.

Most people know it's Cheney that calls the shots, Bush is merely the public face. ;)

    :p

You want to be asking Cheney that question buddy. :)

He is the silent killer. Keeps himself out of the public eye as much as he can leaving Dubya to pretend to be the President. ;)

You want to be mate, he's a fucking lunatic. :D

I'm just one guy sat behind his computer not harming anyone whilst Cheney is a neocon maniac planning on creating as much destruction as he possibly can, that puts it into perspective a bit better for you. :)

I didn't notice "harm" as part of psychosis, but it did mention "thought and perception are severely impaired"

    Ring a ding ding :D

Yet another example of your terrible debating skills, you don't actually respond, you just try to ridicule and make your opponent look like a fool. Very classy.

It's funny you can see it in another, but not yourself. Keep up the good work!

You're obviously too thick/mentally disabled to understand what I'm saying, so I'll stop pushing my point. People will see themselves how horrible your points are.

In response, I'll use your own words:

Yet another example of your terrible debating skills, you don't actually respond, you just try to ridicule and make your opponent look like a fool.

There's not so gratifying as pointing out hypocrisy. Nice job!

I am flattered that about 98% of your posts in P&R so far have been about or towards me. ;)

All that I am trying to say, is that rather than avoid what people are saying and insulting them, why not provide an actual response. I tried to make that statement as non-ridiculing as possible.

Will you be subscribing to your own ideas? Or are they reserved singularly for GTech? I'm always amazed at how people can see only in me, what they and others do themselves!

Let's see, I'm going up against at least half a dozen moonbats on any given day, all filled with the same hatred. Yeah, I'm loving it :D

Actually, I haven't really gotten into any big debates with you, and if I do, I don't plan on insulting you.

Again, an attempt at ridiculing others.
