Rule on amount of backlinks per day?

I was wondering if there is a rule of thumb on the amount of backlinks you should build each day. My website is really new (3-4 months). Would 10-20 social bookmarking sites a day nail me as spamming?

Nope that is not too many links per day. There is not rule of thumb as to what number of links is a good amount. Just keep it looking natural and consistent. The number of links I get per day depends on what pace I can keep up.

Make sure you vary your link anchor text though. If all of those links had the same anchor text, then it would be a problem.

I have heard that 15 per day is the limit. However, Google may not cache and index them in the order you "build" them. A steady flow of one way links cannot be detected. It is the sudden bursts that give Google a red flag.

It depends but I wouldn't say 10 -20 a month to be considered as spamming. Just make sure that the site grows along with it with the increment in the number of backlinks.

I don't think there will be problems. Otherwise you will get banned quickly if you can launch a good link baiting campaign.

    GetAfreelancer.

As for the links, just keep it natural and don't go too deep regarding the number.

as long as it is natural and consistent looking you shouldn't have a problem. just don't go nuts with prstorm or xrumer or you are likely to get sandboxed.

If you are going to do link building Via Social bookmarking, i would suggest you to do it slowly. I have experienced such problem in past and 2 of my sites were sandboxed by google. Though you can do mixture of link building via directory submissions, social bookmarking, blog commenting, forum posting etc. It should not hurt your site. so 5-6 links from social bookmarking, 2-3 blog comments, around 50 directory submissions ( generally 10-15 get approved out of 50 and above all they will not be indexed on the same day) and 4-5 forum posts having signature links.
I generally use this method and have great search engine ranking for many keywords for my blogs.

It's better to split the backlinking across more days then in one day, that's for sure.

Not sure about any limit (I've gotten more then 20 in one day but haven't seen any side effect), but 20 a day should be sufficient enough.

Getting many, for example 1000 quality links in a short period of time dosen't mean that they are all bad links. If the links are genuine and from the relevant sites with good content, would always have a good waitage.
Suppose there are many sites that release various news articles everyday, and if FT releases an articles which contains updates in the feild of finance and tons of sites link to that articles dosent mean that the article is suddenly bad.
But it would always depend on the quality and theme but not quantity, also 1000 in a period of a month or so is something I would'nt even think, Had the number been 100,000 in a month I would have seriously thought about that.

Unless you start getting hundreds of backlinks in a day I would not worry about it too much.

If you submit to 20 directories a day they dont all accept your submission the next day. It could be a couple of weeks or even months on some directories. Based on 20 submissions a day in a couple of months you could get a flurry of acceptances all on same day that totals 100 or more.

Just try to mix it up a bit with submissions to directories, a few to forums and post comments on some relevant blogs.

A good way to find relevant blogs and article that allow comments is to use Google alerts. They e-mail you with list of latest articles and blogs posted on web for the keywords you choose. This makes if easier to post and get links from relevant sites.

Also make posts to forums and comments on blogs relevant. If you try to spam a lot will ban you and on blogs the comment you leave often requires the blog owners approval before its added to the site. No point wasting time submitting if it just gets rejected by the blog owner because it was not relevant.
