RSS is a format which is used to publish frequently updated content, for example blog posts or news. It can be read in feed readers such as Mozilla Thunderbird. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_(file_format) When you update the RSS content, you can submit it to Google: http://blogsearch.google.com/ping. There are services which submit RSS feeds to multiple search engines: http://pingomatic.com/ (doesn't automatically ping Google) http://pingoat.com/ (doesn't automatically ping Google) http://www.ipings.com/
RSS is a XML document. Its mostly used for news sites, forums and blogs. It contains links and short description of latest content additions.
