RSS Feeds: Good or Bad?

So I have recently started a new forum and added some RSS feed functionality working 2 different ways. I'm now wondering does it hurt or help my forum?

Here are the 2 different ways I'm using RSS feeds:

    1. I'm importing 3 RSS feeds from different sites into a sub board of general chat that gives news related to the same niche as the site. I have removed it from the "Recent Topics" section so it doesn't spam that place up. Does this matter hurt my sites SEO by doing this?

    2. I created a RSS export and I'm importing that RSS feed on another bigger forum of mine. The other forum Google indexes content within a few minutes. I have every topic RSS imported to this other forum into it's own board at the bottom of the forum so it doesn't bother any members. Does this hurt my new site in any way with the search engines?

Duplicate content is duplicate content; that should answer your question. Now, if you are preventing indexing of these threads via robots.txt and use of the nofollow attribute it should be a problem.
