Well... I think it because so many websites that only use RSS Directories / Pings for SEO, and some of them dislike RSS Submission from major SEO sites only build their links for PPC campaign, PPL campaign, and not focus on their content.
Be careful with duplicate content. RSS aggregators can involve problems with Google. It happens to me with Rojo aggregator. It start to catch all my feed items creating page with the same title and similar text. My site was penalized for one month because my pages was considered duplicates, due to the fact that Rojo was most authoritative than my web site. I fixed the situation updating my CMS in order to change the item titles on my feed.
RSS can help you update your site for indexing but dup content issues also come up. More authoritative sites may be considered the originators of articles and it may affect your site.
I've never come across any such situation. Mzarkoff, can you elaborate a bit your claims. How did you get to know your site was penalized. How sure are you that it was for a month? Thanks in advance All Success, ~G
It was simple to discover that it was a penalization: i start to search in GG using my title pages enclosed by brackets. Rojo page was almost always on the 1st place, others web aggregators was in front of me as well. Sometime my pages was listed into the omitted results list. So, i made an update on my CMS and i started to use 2 different titles: one for my pages, the other one for the feed item. After one month i got the previus ranking (or a little bit better). Due to this experience i realised that using different titles for feed and web page is not only a precaution, but it helps a lot for search engine ranking because you can use more keywords that GG can relate to your content. Example: PAGE TITLE: Voipstunt: free voip calls worldwide FEED TITLE: Find out how to make free calls to landlines and mobiles In this way your content might get more authority about VoIP matters
