Personally I don't care at all about RSS feeds and find them highly overrated. However I recently read that rss feeds play an considerable role in a site's search engine ranking. So I decided to add feeds to every area of my site. But I don't want to use the: <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS Feed" href="http://www.mysite.com/?feed=rss2" /> HTML: link in the head tags. This of course creates brings the little rss logo next to the address bar. Instead I want to add a rss link to the footer of my site and have users find it that way. The question is, will Search Engines still recognize that my site has a RSS Feed if I don't use the link in the head???
Depends. We don't know what you are using to power your website, and we don't know anything about the code you are using. Try posting either your website or some code. Although I would say yes, if your RSS feed can still be read by FeedBurner, then it will be indexed with other services. Google does own them now, after all.
From what this source mentions, it is more of a tool for browsers than search engines. I think you'll be fine if Feedburner says everything is okay
If you are using feed burner, no need to worry about ur feed. Google takes care of it. And it is not necessary to add icon in header part. It is just a used friendly activity. It helps to fast subscribing of your site. Users doesn't search in your site for feed. If your feed is at address bar, users automatically see and subscribes to your feed.
In addition to auto detect code you should also include an RSS icon and link to your RSS feed. Many will look for the icon on your website.
I decided to add the link to my header. Because I scanned my site using this service: http://www.websitegrader.com/ and when I didn't have the link the scanner did not detect any feeds but when I added it the scanner detected the feed. So even with wordpress and feedburner feeds don't get auto detected without the header link, better to add it and be safe than sorry...
Error in your feed? Kindly let me know, your full problem. If you have error in your feed, update the feed by removing the errors and submit in the feedburner. Feedburner was taken by Google any it is the best way promote your feed. So, that Google has higher crawling capability of feedburner feeds.
