RSS Feeds and Articles

I have an RSS feed to pages on my website in which I have also submitted articles.

I have another website along the same niche which seems to somehow outrank this one for certain keywords. The site with RSS feed always seems to lag this one, even though it's onpage SEO is more focussed as well as more backlinks.

Is the RSS feed with articles submitted to article websites (same as internal webpages) hurting my SERP. If so, is there anything I can do quickly to see if I can get a positive effect on SERP? All comments appreciated.

If your content is getting added to other article sites (i think this is what you are saying) then yes it will be killing your SEO. These sites will outrank you for your own article if they have more authority, pusing you back in the SERP's where you won't be found.

Thanks Sweetfunny, coming through for me again! Tried to rep ya, but it gives me a message that I got to spread it around before I can give you another one. Gave one to someone on another post, but it gave me the same message.

Anyways, do I need to submit separate articles from those on my site in order to get full benefit? I like my feed 'cause I think I get some exposure, btu I sure don't want ot hurt my SERP.

So, from what you said, it sounds like I need to build my site with pages that are unique i.e. not published via article sites and RSS feed those. Then submit other unique articles to article sites. Is this correct?

No problems, with the Rep you can only give someone 1 Rep then you have to give 50 (i think) reps to other people before you can rep the first person again.

With your content, you don't want it anywhere else on the web except your site. This way it is unique, and you get all the benefits.

If you want to syndicate or submit content elsewhere, make sure it's different to what is on your site. Either rewrite it, or only publish small snippets with a link back to you for people to read the full article. ;)

Sweetfunny's right. Never syndicate full RSS feeds to article directories and sites, unless you don't mind things like duplicate content penalties of course.

Thanks guys. I think I got some work to do, just thinking up some strategy so I don't lose some good content I have written. Dan, I repped ya, I just couldn't give any to Sweetfunny until I get rid of some.

Well time to post some more questions and rep any help I get. Thanks again!:)

If you have some content on your site and it's already syndicated elsewhere, you could go back and add a few extra paragraphs to yours and expand upon it somewhat.

Instead of just tacking the new content to the bottom, try and add your new paragraphs in between.. Like between the original 1st and 2rd, then between the 3rd and 4th and so on so it breaks up the big duplicate block of text.

You can even add new sentences amongst your old content, or change words here and there that have the same meaning but are different.

All this will help make your version more unique.
