RSS and SEO

I have just found out about using RSS for for updating headers, and footers sitewide and am considering using it...

However, I have one question, does a RSS inhibit SEO in any way?
For example, if I have a footer with 15 text links, will a spider "read" the links as belonging to the page, or will it ignore them as it is an external file?

    Thanks.

It depends on if you use the rel="nofollow" tag in the link...

Not if that would exclude the footer from being read. I was looking to make sure that the footer was picked up....

from my own site with my RSS included on several pages using SSI i see that G clearly indexes the feed's text as part of the page - hence it changes or falsifies the overall indexing of that page as the page now contains more text that might be irrelevant to the actual texts content of that page where the SSI is shown ...
    sometimes useful
    sometimes a disadvantage

The bots will read them if they are included. When using simple SSI (Server Side Includes), it will basically parse everything together into one file that is requested. So if you look at the html, it is as if that page was static. The bots never know the difference.

So Yes, unless using nofollows, it will happily do as planned.
