what are some good sites that offer royalty free pictures. It doesn't have to be free but I don't want to be spending more than $10 per picture. I've been seeing a lot of people complaining on the legal issues thread about getty images persecuting them and I don't want to end up in the same situation. What are some trusted sites that will defer you from having such issues.
    Thanks

Also if you purchase it from a site is there any guarantee that you won't be sued for using a copy right image. If you do get sue can you direct the persecutors to the site or will they not give a damn?

    ok thanks everyone.
check out istock photos, they have a lot of varities which seems quite good spent a while trying to pick out photos I like.

The wikimedia was very helpful too. however I'm not quite understanding it, so are we able to use those images we see on wikimedia?
Also for the sxc site I don't see where to purchase credits, is it a free site?

One more thing, I saw this site:http://www.freedigitalphotos.net/images/terms.php
and they have a photo I want. What do you guys think of it. Anyone had any legal issues with it? Because what I fear is getting sued for using a copyright image without permission which seem to be the trend for many and I don't want to go through that torment.
    Thanks once again +reps

Just be sure you read the license agreement. I like Photo Wizard http://www.photo-wizard.net its smaller but unique and less "used" also the license allows for full commercial use in designs.

Is this really trusted. I hear a lot of stories of people getting chased by getty and i don`t want to end up in the same boat. where do you get your images from do you have rights to re-license them

While going for copyrighted stuff, i always trust bigger sites, since they have more at stake, i use http://www.fotolia.com and the images are too good too, search by keywords and till date all my keywords have returned 100+ images to choose from and more than 80% of images cost just 1$ for webpage resolution, of course if you need higher resolutions you pay more.
Also i follow the practise of buying photos with my credit card, as it leaves a trail, for usage later if any issues arise

Of course it's a trusted site. It belongs to the photo agency Epictura: http://www.epictura.com

Epictura is one of the largest photo supplier on the market with over 6 millions stock images. It has been operating since 2001 building distribution parternship with Gettyimages, Corbis, Image Source... and over 20.000 photographers.

With were the first stock photo portal to offer premium images along with microstock ($1 photos) on the same site back in 2007.
