Routers are being frequently used in small to medium companies, not even that they are also being used in homes. But with sophisticated technology, problems come as a free package and same goes with routers. There are a couple of problems that I also had to face and some how, by hit and trial methods, I have found solutions for them and listed the solutions here in a very simple to implement manner. Majority of the times Routers do not obtain the IP address assigned by the ISP, the solution to this common problem is : 1. Make sure that the cable or DSL modem is connected properly. 2. Always try to reset the cable or DSL modem by powering the modem off and on. 3. If by any chance dynamic IP addressing is being used, make sure that the cable or DSL modem is DHCP- capable. 4. The most important of them all some ISP’S specially require a MAC address registered with them. And what if the above procedure fails, quite a tricky problem indeed, but with a three step solution too. 1. Resetting the cable modem or DSL modem by powering the unit off and on should solve the problem. 2. The next step should be to download the latest release of the firmware from the manufacturer’s site. 3. Resetting the router’s factory default . And what if emails are not accessible, then …..do the following. 1. Connecting your computer directly to the cable modem should solve the issue. 2. next ping the ISP web server. And what if you are not able to get the web configuration screen for the router , the solution to this problem is quite simple, remove proxy settings on the internet browser or remove the dial up settings on your browser. And yes one can also open ICQ and send files to the other network by following the steps ….. • go to ICQ menu • go to preferences • go to connections tab • check “ I am behind a firewall or proxy†and set the firewall time out to 80 seconds in firewall settings and then one can easily send file to the use behind the router for the first time connection. And most important one should always look for firmware upgrades on the manufacturers website. The suggestions mentioned above should be of help but should be done with utmost care and precaution.
