I read the thread on the .php and .htm/.html files. I am running into a problem where I have a folder that had ye old index.htm file - it got outdated and when the new index.php file got put up, it was never removed. I put a 404 up on the index.htm file now and submitted it to Google for removal. It was denied. So, I checked for what they had as the cached page for the index.htm and it showed me the root folder. Now, I will give google credit for being smart enough to figure out that index.Whatever is the root folder and being able to show me that cached version of the page. But, I have NO page rank on the root folder and page rank 5 on the index.php that I saved. I am really worried about duplicate content issues and want to get this cleaned up right. I was considering doing a 301 redirect to the root folder and even recreating the index.htm page since google won't recognize the 404 I put up. But, when I noticed the index.php page is what is holding the Page Rank, I became confused. Any suggestions?
