Sorry if this is the wrong section, it seems the most related to a question I have. Do you guys think there is room for another social bookmarking website? I'm interested in getting into it but I don't want to bother if I'm going to be pushed out by "big brother".
There is always room for more sites. BUT, not always room for sites that are of lesser quality than the first mover. What you need is another similar site that has something special or better about it which enables it to be disruptive. There is always more room for sites that possess this disruptive quality.
Here's a good example for you: Friendster. They were the first mover in the social networking market, from what I understand, but MySpace took their spot... and now FaceBook has disrupted MySpace's previous status as top social networking site. The first movers almost always win in the start, but in order to keep their lead they usually need to stay ahead of the competition. Any significantly good technology has the possibility of disrupting even the largest of companies, Yahoo & Google, for example. Yahoo was the behemoth of the next when Google's search algorithm changed everything.
