    Hi all,
We have had our site up for about a year, but are starting to find it SO slow, with problems updating files etc- you can go make a cup of tea, have a bath, put the cat out and it is still thinking about it, usually ending up saying website not responding.....agh! It has got the point that I can't add new products which is now a serious issue. I have been advised by one person to go for a dedicated server as we have reached a size where this is now necessary- what do you think? Would this help, or is it an overreaction and a waste of money- cost now is £14.99/month, I would be paying over £100/month so it has got to be for a good reason!
We are oscommerce with around 500-600 hits a day and over 1000 pages of information.
Any help very gratefully received :)

    Lucy

500-600 hits a day is not much traffic and you definitely don't need a dedicated server for that. You are most likely on a shared server with hundreds (or thousands) of other sites. I'd just look at getting a different shared host. I have one site on yahoo hosting (not recommended), and the rest on a dedicated server.

I'm sure you'll get some decent recommendations from others that use shared hosts.

As mentioned above 500 - 600 is not a lot of visitors although it depends on how the site is coded and if it is efficient. I recently had an issue with a site on a server and this was very low traffic and caused a huge slow down!!! In general 500 - 600 shouldnt cause a problem though.

A decent shared account with many providers can be enough. If you anticipate a lot of growth then maybe a VPS could be your next option.
