    Current Republican Nomination Poll Numbers:
    • Giuliani: 27.2%
    • Thompson: 14.2%
    • McCain: 13.2%
    • Romney: 12.2%
    • Huckabee: 11.0%
    • Paul: 4.7%
    Source: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls/

4.7% isn't bad! Now all Paul needs is the top five candidates to get caught on tape in a massive homosexual orgy.

Rasmussen Reports has it a little different on the national level:

    Giuliani - 20%
    Huckabee - 17%
    Thompson - 14%
    McCain - 13%
    Romney - 11%

I guess RP isn't polling high enough to be in there.

A quick scan of their daily report shows him at 7% in that poll.

Incorrect. It shows him at the 17% that I originally quoted. Straight from your source:

No idea why RP isn't in there :)

I should have been more clear, I meant Dr. Paul.

Here's a quote from mid August to contrast the rise we've had since then. We have a long way to go to have a chance at the nomination, so hopefully time is on our side and we make some waves with Tea Party '07. Then again, considering mainstream media started backing Huckabee and he doubled his polling in a matter of weeks, anything is possible, IMO.

Aye Fletch, I remember the days when it was said Dr. Paul would never poll higher than 2%.

Of course, the polls are meaningless. 1 month before the Iowa Caucus, Howard Dean was the runaway winner, and Kerry and Edwards were polling behind Al Sharpton at 5%. Kerry/Edwards finished 1, 2.

This is exactly where we want to be and trending in the direction we need to be going in.

We want to be trending positive. The campaign has only just begun spending the money it has brought in. In Nevada, we outpoll Huckabee. In New Hampshire, we outpoll Thompson. In Iowa, we tie McCain.

For a no chance candidate, we sure are eating up some space.

And besides, this is not the revolution base. These are 2000 & 2004 Bush Republicans. Paul's base are Reagan Republicans, Reagan Democrats, Independents, new Republicans, and the youth vote.

I'd hazard a guess that in a comprehensive poll, we're probably in 3rd.

But I like showing 5th or 6th. They won't see us coming. :)

I love Paul talking about his exchange with Guiliani at the Youtube debate, which went something like this:

Guiliani: "Oooh, you sure have a LOT of supporters."
    Paul: "It's only the beginning."

And all of the Democrats who are registering Republicans.

Plus, the entirety of the Alex Jones Fan Club.

Except that the most comprehensive numbers available never list Paul -- because they only show the top five candidates.

The best Paul can realistically hope for is that one of the top five drop out -- magically elevating Paul to respectability.

Yes, because you aren't coming.

Too bad Goldwater never won way back when against Johnson. Goldwater's views are closest to what I believe, and from that you can take an idea who I still support.

Sure. And the Constitution Party members who have pledged to vote Ron Paul if he gets the nomination and can vote as independents in some states.

And the Libertarian Party members, some of their candidates have already endorsed Paul.

And the disaffected Goldwater/Reagan Republicans. Robert Taft wing of the party.

Unlikely. None of the other candidates supporters will switch to Paul unless they discover their conservative consciences.

It has happened though. We picked up one of Obama's biggest grassroots guys from LA. And we picked up one of the big Fred Thompson grassroots organizers as well. But they are young, and won't show up as "likely Republican voters"

Like I said, you aren't seeing us. And that's exactly how we like it. :)

Goldwater and Reagan were both strong on national defense and clear in the understanding that effective national defense requires significant effort in support of freedom abroad.

If Paul were also, he wouldn't be facing the stiff opposition he is currently facing from responsible voters.

I apologize if I was not clear. What I mean was that if one of the other candidates dropped out, Paul would suddenly be elevated to the #5 spot -- which would get him on the list of the top five candidates. This would instantly get him more press and the snowball effect would raise his numbers.

Your statement is more telling -- in a very different way. Do you really believe that mainline Republicans won't vote for Paul?

Should Paul perhaps run as a Democrat instead? The Democrats could certainly use a better candidate!

This image of the average Paul supporter is not attractive to the average American voter.

Plus, he's Jewish, which is a strong turn-off to much of Paul's anti-Semitic base.

Well, Reagan did say that Paul was strong on national defense and understood the needs of the country.

I truly believe that a President Paul would immediately go after Osama Bin Laden, with all of the resources available to him.

Not necessarily. Not if the dropout numbers went to another lower candidate like Tancredo.

You have to understand that only 6% of Republicans voted in the primaries in 2004. These are the people being called for the most part. The party has experienced massive shrinkage since the 2004 elections and the war. Traditionally the GOP has not been the party of foreign interventionism. That has been the Democrats. Bush ran on a non-interventionism foreign policy in 2000.

All that matters, is that the country is not going to elect another pro-war candidate this time around. Paul is the best chance to beat the Democrats and save us from an economic meltdown.

Agreed. But they have Dennis Kucinich. He's nuts, but he is a Constitutionalist, which makes him about 10x better than most of the GOP candidates like Huckabee.

I gotta get back to updates.

Reagan might have said it, but it clearly isn't true at this point in history.

OBL isn't the problem. He's just a symptom. It's the environment which created OBL and allows him to thrive which is the problem.

Going after OBL is necessary but not sufficient.

You don't believe in Paul's ability to attract Republican voters?

That is all that matters to you? You would support any candidate, as long as they are weak on defense?

Our best chance at beating the Democrats would be anyone who can intelligently vocalize the reasons why America is good and is worth defending -- and a party organization that backs up that candidate.

Except that he's not. Kucinich is a socialist who would completely gut the Constitution to build his welfare state while destroying any rights Americans have to conduct their own business affairs.

Kucinich uses the Constitution, poorly, as a tool in his personal war.

But enough about that kook, we're discussing Grandpa Paul. :D

are you honestly still clinging to the idea that invading Iraq was a worth while venture?

man, do you have this much trouble admitting you are wrong in your personal life?

Its ok, everybody makes mistakes, but come on its so obvious at this point that the war supports are totally wrong
