@extra_work : We have a good football team, here in Romania, but maybe they just didn't trained to much for this game. But remember one thing, the left player that you can see in the photo, was born in my city. My parents met his dad, and I can guarantee that he is not GIPSY! I think that all of you seen the gypsies that live in Italy. Most of them are thief, and they ( maybe ) kill. But we ARE NOT THE SAME. For your knowledge, I know thousands of peoples who have a big fortune, but they made money LEGAL & WITH WORK, LEGALLY in Italy. Rememer WE ARE NOT THE SAME !
Gypsies do have a bad reputation in Europe and for a reason. when i used to live in France i got mugged by 2 of them (still pisses me off just thinking about it). on the other hand i knew a couple of gypos that were pretty nice people. just like any people, you get the "good" ones as well as the "bad" ones. anyways, this thread should be closed, or moved, this isn't the place for it
Why digital point keep this thread alive? Shame on you. And about our national team, you can see real pictures with Chivu and Mutu, not like that ones modified in Photoshop.
Omg, Mutu and Chivu are not gypsies. The only gypsy from Romania's team is Banel. Actually gypsies are from India. Look at France, how many black guy's they have in their team?
Just because the photo shows them with darker skin doesn't mean 80% of romanian team are gypsies. And hey, that comes from a neutral guy like me!
Why dont you bother to explain if you know what they are ? "The scientific approaches to gypsy's origins reflect some degree of uncertainty. It is most likely that they originated in northern India, in the Punjab region." source:http://www.helium.com/items/41654-the-origin-of-gypsies Wikipedia tells the same.
Is gypsy an offensive term in that area? I didn't know gypsies were a race, in the US if you brought up gypsies most people would think of a fortune teller in the back of a wagon at a carnival, either that or nomadic people from pre industrial europe, I never knew it was a real ethnic group.
Gypsies (tigani) are seriously a big problem in Romania. At least they were, they seem to have moved to the Italians recently. I myself am Romanian, and this thread does offend me, to an extent. Nothing has been exaggerated, there is a vast hatred for the gypsies, in Romania itself. We seem to carry a large portion of their population. As a child, whenever the Gypsies rolled down the block with their horse carriages, all the children hid behind street corners, and out of vision. The hatred is large, and an association to them is largely offensive, thus the response to this thread. It is our culture, so to say. Americans with their homosexuality, Romanians with their gypsies. Typically, In America, the phrase "You're gay" is thrown around loosely. This is what I'm referring to in the paragraph above. In Romanian we use things like "Stop acting like a Gypsy" (poorly translated ). Either way, I would have to disagree with the original post. There aren't too many gypsies on the team. Just one I believe. I hope our national identity isn't limited to the Gypsies. I guess everyone is afraid of this, to an extent. P.S Hagi was a soccer God - R.I.P
Ahh thanks for the education, I had no idea. I'm not sure how attached gypsies are to the Romanian national identity. First things I would associate with Romania are your gymnastics teams in the Olympics and I believe that's where the Dracula myth came from isn't it? Vampires are always cool.
It's good to see that the public still remembers Nadia (I'm assuming this is who you were referring to when you mentioned gymnastics). I haven't heard much about the present teams. I am however, living in Canada, so that just may be me . I'm under the impression that Dracula was created from the image of a Romanian Leader, named Vlad, or rather "Vlad the Impaler". He was a leader with a strong sense of justice, so to say. He opposed the breaking of laws with cruel deaths, and public humiliation. I remember my mother telling me that he threw the convicted off the top of mountain tops, falling to their death. I'm not exactly sure how the myth arose. Maybe it had something to do with his harsh punishments. But yes, we do hold the creation of Dracula under our belt . spooky .
Not just Nadia, the girls team are always top competitors even if they don't take a medal. And yah I remember Vlad now, backed by the Christian Hungarian king, he lost either a brother or a son to the Turkish I believe? And the Impaler title was very accurate, as he'd mount criminals on gigantic wooden pikes. Ahh the medieval era.
I actually went to nursing school but have worked in e-commerce for the last 4 years . I'm just an amateur history buff is all.
gypsys are original from punjab india long ago but now all are coverted from hinduism/sikhism to christianity and islam
Only because there are Gypsies in Romania it doesn't mean that all romanians are gypsies. It means you are a retard sheep following the herd.
